Saturday Night Shots

  • PUMPED about our new message series that starts tomorrow, ROCK OF LOVE!
  • PUMPED about running with my Dad again on Feb. 28th in the Texas Cowtown Marathon. Funny, I remember how much I used to fret about a long race…now its kind of just another day.
  • PUMPED that Nic got his hot tub up and running today. Ummmm…they are going to have to just go ahead and give me a key…it will be easier than me calling and begging ever other day or so. :)
  • PUMPED that I got to chill with my family all day. Awesome! Sometimes, doing nothing feels good. That is something pretty off the wall and crazy for me to say…
  • 100% CONVINCED that if everyone in the U.S. understood this and did something about it, the world could change, forever.
  • SAD that some of the “Church growth haters” out there on the web don’t understand that LOVE is all that really matters. It baffles me. Why can’t we just love people? What’s wrong with loving people?
  • WONDERING what it must feel like to have no guts. Love how these critics that are out there on the web use random names on comment sections of blogs and fake emails. They are cowards, hiding behind keyboards. CRUD! ZAK, LOVE…remember…LOVE!
  • NOT PUMPED that our Executive Administrator, Kristi West, crushed me today by sharing the official U.S. flag code with me…it appears that Texas doesn’t have any special flag privileges after all. That does not change the fact that TEXAS is the greatest state in this Nation!
  • NOT PUMPED that I didn’t get to go shoot stuff today. You can’t buy 9MM ammo around here anywhere. Thanks for nothing all you “scared that Obama will take our guns away” psychos. :)

Sam & Esther

We worry about the economy a lot right now. All kinds of “what ifs” go through our mind. Yeah, its bad right now. But maybe we need a perspective check.

Watch this video if you are man enough. Or, choose the easy route and live in ignorance. I cried. A lot.

THIS is why we sponsor a Compassion child. We can’t do a lot, but we can make a big difference in Emmanuel Sikuku’s life. Emmanuel is our Compassion child and though I’ve never met him in person, I love him to death. You might not feel like there is much you can do either. But something tells me that you can make a difference for at least one, somehow, somewhere.

Go for it.

The Leader’s Inner Circle

Something that I have learned is that a leader’s potential is determined by those closest to him or her.

I read an incredible article about this by John Maxwell the other day. Below is the summary version. When you get time, go read the full version HERE.

Questions to Ask of Candidates for Your Inner Circle:

  1. Do they display exemplary character in everything they do?
  2. Do they bring complementary gifts to the table?
  3. Do they hold a strategic position and have influence within the organization?
  4. Do they add value to the organization and to the leader?
  5. Do they positively impact other members of the inner circle?

Traps to Avoid when Staffing Your Inner Circle:

  1. Soliciting praise instead of candor.
  2. Driving away talent so that your power isn’t threatened.

Needed Encouragement

I’m working through some stuff right now and have been feeling like a loser. Then, this morning, while I’m chatting with Clayton Bell, he twitters this message:

Twitter Encouragement

“Chatting with cadillaczak. That guy flipping ooozes passion. My fave trait of his…”

Clayton saying that publicly is one of THE MOST encouraging things ever for me. And it couldn’t come at a better time.

Clayton, thanks buddy. You da man.
