- PUMPED about the incredible weekend we had. Lots of travel, lots of food, and lots of family! Also, I ran the Cowtown Half Marathon in Ft. Worth this morning with my dad. It was 30 degrees and we ran the first two miles straight into 36 mile an hour winds. NASTY. But, I finished alongside my Dad (for the first time ever; usually I’m ahead of him but I wanted to run with him today) and has a BLAST!
- PUMPED that my parent brought my childhood, handmade by my grandad TOYBOX. I’m going to clean it up and it will be Couper’s.
- PUMPED about the new series called Famous Last Words we’ll be starting in the morning at The Connection Church.
- PUMPED about a top secret creative element in the services tomorrow that is going to take ALL OF US at TCC to a WHOLE NUTHA’ LEVEL.
- PUMPED about some other BIG STUFF that I can’t give details on…yet.
- PUMPED that we are having the BIG HUNT at the Thunder Hill Raceway. BOOOYAH. I know lots of churches with Easter Egg Hunts, but none that have one with 20,000 plus eggs hidden on a NASCAR sanctioned race track. HECK YES! COME ON!
- NOT PUMPED about nothing.

Killing Cockroaches

Book 3 of my 2009 Reading List was “Killing Cockroaches” By Tony Morgan.
(Click here for a quick summary)
Killing Cockroaches is an absolute must read for any Church leader. If you read Seth Godin’s “Tribes” and enjoyed it’s mini-chapter format, you’ll love this book. Its perfect for someone like me who thinks all books should be less than 120 pages and have the fluff cut out. Killing Cockroaches has NO fluff.
Tony’s style of writing is quick and to the point. Never before has there been such a good book for church systems and strategies.
The book is an easy read; you’ll want to keep a copy on your shelf as a sort of church systems reference guide. There is no doubt that I’ll be referring back to Killing Cockroaches for years to come.
Bottom line: Read this book if you want to be challenged to stop wasting time on different things and to think more creatively on others.
And, whatever you do, stop killing cockroaches. God has great plans for you!
Bringing Me Back
God just keeps brining me back to this passage of Scripture:
Read it. Share your thoughts with me.
Listen to Your Momma
Did your momma ever tell you “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all”???
Jentezen Franklin really rocked my world at the Creative Church Conference last week.
He opened up the conference speaking on how Christians MUST “de-horn” each other and learn what mercy is. We like to think that “we” are right and “they” are wrong. So we draw horns on “them.”
The tongue is the greatest and worst thing in the world. Or, in our case sometimes, the keyboard. I couldn’t help but think about the bloggers that have nothing better to do than sit around and bash churches who are really going after people far from God, like we do at The Connection Church.
Then something Jentezen said (I don’t even remember what it was) made me realize “wait a second! I’m a j-e-r-k too.” I don’t do it on the blog, but I do tear other Christ followers down at times when I am with certain people.
Then, this morning, I read this verse from Paul:
“But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” -Philippians 1:18
My friend Anne said it this way a while back:
“Suck up the pride, bite your tongue, and listen to your momma. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all. People will know us by the love we have for each other. Remember that.”
Ouch.
God, teach me to say something nice.
I want to be known for what I am FOR, not what I am against.
