In: GOD| Life Change| Revolution Church
31 Oct 2009Today is Halloween, but I also like to remember it as Reformation Day. A revolution began 492 years ago that changed the face of the Earth today.
In the early 1500’s, roman catholic theology stated that faith alone, whether fiduciary or dogmatic, cannot justify man; and that only such faith as is active in charity and good works can justify man. In other words the benefits of good works or faith could now be obtained by donating money to the church or by going through certain motions.
Whoops.
On October 31st in 1517 a man named Martin Luther wrote to Albrecht, an Archbishop of the Catholic church, protesting the sale of indulgences; that is this idea that you could be justified with money. In his letter he included his “Disputation of Martin Luther on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences,” which came to be known as The 95 Theses.
And the world changed…forever.
You can read more about Martin Luther and the reformation here.
But what I would really encourage you to do is read through the 95 Theses if you never have. Incredible stuff and amazing how God could use one man to do something so big and Earth shaking.
Click here to download a PDF of the 95 Theses for your reading enjoyment.
God, use me to do something so big, so much greater than anything I’ve ever imagined or dreamed…like Martin Luther.
