The Cream and the Top

The saying goes “The cream rises to the top.”

I’m not so sure.

I had coffee with a young man the other day with some BIG dreams. Let’s call him Dan. Dan was sharing frustrations with me that his dreams just aren’t happening at the speed which he originally thought the would. I asked Dan how long he’d been working hard on these dreams and he responded “about eight months.”

My wife makes amazing homemade whipped cream. Canned whip is just par. Starbucks whip is somewhere in between the two. The cream might rise to the top, but what if its really average cream?

In Galatians 6:9 it says “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

My football coach used to say “boys, what you gotta figure out is whether you’re a smart feller or a fart smeller.” Not exactly as spiritual sounding as the Galatians verse…it turns out that Dan is still in the figuring out stage. Maybe he’s a smart feller…maybe not.

In other words, patience, grasshopper. Your time is coming. But only if you are working hard and long. Only if you are seeking wisdom. Only if you are searching for God with all your heart.
