Its Amber, Pastor Zak’s wife and I am taking over the blog today! I know our pastor better than anyone (I had better…especially after ten years of marriage!)

Revolution Church, here are some things you might not know about your pastor:

Pastor Zak is a HUGE Romantic (he writes me a love note each week and places it in a different place…O’So special to me!) He still dates me like he did in high school. He plans every date and takes me out at least every other week. He wants to model what it means to be a great husband to our son Couper.
Pastor Zak has a dance party everyday! I am not kidding, last year he danced for at least one minute per day all 365 days of the year. It keeps him joyful. And it freaks Couper out a little.
He is his own worst critic.
I like to call him “hound dog” because he smells literally everything and can smell things from a mile away.
When Pastor Zak is passionate about something he is completely SOLD OUT…there is NO half hearted commitment! Its all or nothing, go big or go home with him in everything.
His Pet-Peeve is when people say they are going to do something and they don’t follow through.
He has to hit the clear button on the microwave when it is finished or flashing…it drives him “cray cray” for it to not have the time on it.
He loves God and loves people. He follows God with every bone in his body and has this ability to call things out in people and challenge them.

Our Five Christmas at Revolution Worship Experiences were packed out!
We had about 62 people accepted Christ! GET PUMPED UP REVOLUTION! We got to personally followup already with 15 of those people through our Next Steps ministry! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
The “All of the Lights” / orignal song “Illuminate” mashup was one of the most creative things I have ever seen done in a church. Great job REV Creative! Cool to have dancers on stage for the first time ever at Revolution.
I was completely overwhelmed the last two days by our REV Teams and how incredible they are! Wow! Great job team! You made the dream of Christmas at Revolution come true with your hard work. And it did not return void. Look at all the lives that were changed!
That said, get ready…2012 is going to be truly REVOLUTIONARY!
Fudge and coffee at the REV Cafe was amazing!
It snowed as people were leaving each service…i’ll admit the snow tasted like soap…but still fun to have snow!
We gave all of our guests (we call them VIP’s) a bright green Revolution Church tumbler cup full of fun stuff. Love it!
Everyone that accepted Christ got one of our new “Start Here Tubes” complete with this booklet on accepting Christ and a Revolution Church t-shirt. Just our way of celebrating life change!
The Street Team golf carts were decked out with Christmas lights! Awesome!
We gave all of our REV Team members a cool Revolution Church Christmas shirt. They sported them proudly!
Remember no services tomorrow, Christmas day, December 25th.

Static Mind Dump

We continued “This is the Sound” today with a message called Static. I have had a blast teaching and learning more about how we can hear from God!
We did a sermon illustration today with the screens, sound and lights…we created of moment of complete chaos and interference to illustrate what life is like when we try to hear from God. There are so many voices…so much static competing for our attention today. It was powerful and scared the snot out of people.
Actually to tell the truth, even though I knew it was coming and had already been through it twice, the illustration made me jump in the 3rd service. YIKES!
The band debuted a new song today called “The Sound.” Awesome song! Another great work from the Revolution Band.
I love that we have so many creative people serving God with their giftedness at Revolution Church!
I previewed one creative element of our Christmas Eve services with the team today and it is going to be INCREDIBLE. Get your tickets now and some tickets for a friend!

I made a huge personal announcement during the sermon today…and I will share it with you here on the blog soon…
I ran a race in New Braunfels yesterday…just a short one. It was a 5K (3.1 miles). Cool part is I got 7th place. BAM! It was way too stinking cold to be running. I am still freezing!
If you haven’t tried it yet, you need to try some Yerba Mate tea. Pretty good, though I’ll probably stick with my cuban coffee. Thank you Nic!

Signal Booster Mind Dump

We kicked off The Sound today, a new series of messages on hearing the voice of God. If you missed it check it out on the REV APP later this week or right here online.

A few guys in the church built out our HUGE GIFT on stage this week. It turned out great! A big old present that changes colors. Pretty cool!
I shared about our Christmas services on Dec. 23rd and 24th today and tickets started going fast! Get your tickets here now before they are all gone or visit the REV Cafe on any Sunday.
Don’t forget about A Night of Worship this Wednesday at 6:30pm. Full kids ministries will be rolling, so bring the kiddos. Also we will have communion and a special “conversation” on stage. Excited about it!

Heel Catcher Mind Dump

Today’s message was called “Heel Catcher.” We looked at the most dysfunctional story I have ever heard – the story of Jacob, Rachel and Leah in Genesis 29.
Here is a one shot summary of todays message: I don’t have to chase acceptance because I am already accepted.
The tragedy of so many of our lives is that we spend our entire lives chasing a blessing that is already ours! We spend so much energy trying to be accepted…and all along, Jesus has already accepted us.

I used a huge notepad during the sermon today. Yes, in the 2nd and 3rd service I spelled “Driving” wrong. I wrote “Drivig” on my big notepad on stage. No I didn’t realize that I did it. Its hard to think, preach, open markers and look at notes all at once. LOL. I feel goofy. I promuse I raelly am a good speler…
I loved the bands version of Amazing Grace that they closed the service with. Sharon can SANG IT and BRANG IT. WOW! They also did Firework by Katy Perry, which went really well with the message.
Thank you everyone who prayed for me and the church staff. Saturday was a hard day for us…it felt like we were being attacked on every front.
Had some weird, weird stuff happen during each service…just part of the game when you really are reaching people that are seeking God or far from God.
The REV Cafe took it up a notch today…a new flow, new signage and more. Love it!
If you caught a glimpse of the Revolution Kids and Club 56 area, you saw that we are doing some light construction…so cool that we are already having to adjust for growth!
And finally, I hate time change. Doesn’t matter if we fall back or spring forward – they are both the devil!

Scarecrow Mind Dump

We kicked off our new series today called Scarecrow.
It was a very heavy message today on idols in our lives.
Attendance was down bad. The airshow kills us when its at Randolph.
BUT, people accepted Christ today! YES! NEVER GETS OLD BABY!
It was a little creepy preaching with the scarecrows behind me (see pics below)
I loved the bluegrass feel stuff the band did today. If you thought it was fun today, wait until you see what we have planned the final week of the series. OH. MY. GOSH.
Yes, I really did live in Nazareth, TX for several years after I was born. In all three services only my wife and one other woman knew where that is. See it here and learn about it here.
VERY interesting fact about Nazareth, TX…the Nazareth Swiftettes (girls high school basketball team) have won 18 state championships which is a current public school national record. INCREDIBLE. I attribute it to the fact that there is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING to do in Nazareth but play basketball.
Look at today’s pics closely and you will think one of two things…either you will think I have a bad sunburn or a great tan. The airshow was this weekend, so take your best guess.

The conclusion to our “FLIP MY LIFE” series was today. We talked about flipping our families.
I met a LOT of VIP’s (that’s what we call first time guests) today. Crazy!
We kicked off three services today. All three had great energy and were very well attended.
Next service time….1:00pm….let’s invite people and bring them to the House so that we have to add a 1:00pm service by January Revolution! Be a BRINGER.
We had Michael Robison, his wife Allison and his kiddos in the house worshipping with us today. It was an HONOR.
Michael will be pastoring our next church plant in the cedar park / round rock area. Its called Uncommon Church. LOVE IT!
Uncommon Church is a perfect name…Pastor Michael has one of the most audacious, uncommon visions that I have ever heard. This guy challenges the heck outta me.
We closed out the worship experience by announcing our new series, “Scarecrow” that will start next Sunday.

Had a BLAST preaching on how to FLIP our Friendships today.
TONS of people joined REV Groups and REV Teams today…THAT is exciting. I love seeing people take that next step!
We had several people accept Christ today. I got to talk one on one with a couple of them. God reminded me that people are broken and hurting and need the love, hope, peace, grace and mercy that only Christ can offer. When it come to the Gospel, we have to wheel it, deal it, say it, spray it!!!
The band played the Friends theme song “I’ll be there for you” today. Everyone loved it. I couldn’t believe how many people put their hands up and did the “super fast clap” during the song without any prompting or help! Our own Tommy Hill wrote a hip-hop rap this week and put it in the middle of the song. Awesome!
The band also did my favorite worship song out right now: “No Limit” by Fellowship Church. Pastor Pace Hartfield and his team are LEGIT. LOVE everything they are putting out there!
My parents were in the early service. Always an HONOR to have them with us. LOVE YOU GUYS!
My friend Michael Robison moved to Texas today. He is launching a new church called “Uncommon Church” in the north Austin (Cedar Park) area. Revolution Church is supporting Michael and the plant there and we are FIRED UP to be a part of it!
Perhaps the biggest part of today was this: Announcing that we are going back to 3 Worship Experiences NEXT SUNDAY! God is growing His church, just like He said he would!!! Praise Jesus!
Yes, that means “the LOUD, the PROUD, the 8:30 CROWD!” will be BACK in effect, next Sunday.
The new times are: 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30am.

New Location First Day Sunday Mind Dump

First Sunday in our new location today! Be sure to check out the pics below…
a special shout out to Pastor David for kicking tail and getting us into the new location so fast. The man basically took us from nothing to 10,000 square feet completely built out in under two months. INCREDIBLE.
Today was my first “not-portable” church day in about seven years! It was very odd for me to not have to pack stuff in and out of a trailer!
The team did AMAZING at rockin’ it in the new place.
The band debuted a new song today called “Uprising.” IT. WAS. OFF. THE. CHAIN. INCREDIBLE!
Parking was full. CRUD. Good problems are still problems.
I cannot believe how amazing of a service our Tech guys were able to pull off, related to lighting, sound, stage, after absolutely no practice. We were literally down to the wire, still installing and setting up lights even this morning. And we have at least 10 lights to go.
I also cannot believe how fast we went from finding the building to completely built out. That’s why we are called Revolution! We do everything in a revolutionary way!
Next week is our GRAND FLIPPIN’ OPENING. I am FIRED UP!
I have only slept 5 hours in the last 70 hours. I WILL crash tonight.
God is SO GOOD!!!

Another incredible day at Revolution Church! Watch here if you missed it.
Hopefully today was our last day at the gym!
Pray that we pass fire inspection this week, get our Certificate of Occupancy, and get to have church at the new place next Sunday!
We are doing great on investing in chairs! There are just 6 days left. We have about 175 of 300 chairs invested in. If you feel led to help, get full details and give right here.
I really enjoyed preaching this last Sunday in the gym focused on the vision that launched Revolution Church.
It was fun to have “church stripped down” too. We had no lights, no stage, no huge video screen and we even did worship pretty simple today. All of the equipment is being installed at the new place, so it was a natural move to make. It was fun to reminisce and remember what it was like at Revolution on day one.
At Revolution, Everyone is welcome, everyone is needed and everyone is changed. And. I. Mean. EVERYONE.
Even Aggie fans are welcome. Seriously…see? Everyone!

CRAZY CRAZY DAY at REVOLUTION CHURCH!
Many people accepted Christ today! YES! LOVE SEEING LIVES CHANGED!
Record attendance today! We have got to get moved to our new location ASAP. We may need to do 4 services for a few weeks…
Had a keyboard for the first time ever today and it took the band to a whole nutha level!
I sliced my thumb open BAD during setup. Needed stitches, but it was too close to church time so we bandaged it up. Tough preacher. Ok so maybe not that tough. I could feel it throbbing the whole time I preached, all three services.
I usually don’t see my son, Couper, until after church. Amber brought him in to the worship experience when she arrived to see me. He would not let her drop him off at REV’N RAINFOREST (our pre-school area) because he wanted to make sure I was ok and that my thumb was still on. Made me feel special.
SO AWESOME to have my wife, Amber back at church! She was gone for 3 Sundays…that STUNK!
I love Sundays! I honestly think its the most important day of the week!
I had a blast preaching through the story of Jonah and the story of Paul in Acts 27 getting shipwrecked. The message was called “Sailing with Captain Brian.” You can listen here. Video will be up within a day or two here.
Its going to be a crazy few weeks at Revolution Church. I am going to try to chill for the rest of today and watch a movie. Yeah right…

Haven’t done the Sunday Mind Dump in a while…so…here…we…go…

Amazing day at Revolution Church! SO good to be back in the house! I love worshipping with you Revolution!
Attendance is still way up! We will only be at the gym another 3-5 weeks and I am trying to not have a 4th service just for a few weeks…but I need your help Revolution! If you attend the 10:00am or 11:30am service, would you make a MISSIONARY MOVE to the 8:30am service for the remainder of our time at the gym to open parking spaces and seats for our guests? If so, I’ll do something special for the early service only…no hints. You will have to make the move to see…
I had a BLAST preaching today. Many people needed the message on mountains and valleys today. I had people share some stories with me after each service of DEEP DEEP DEEP valleys that they are walking through. This is why we have to focus on loving God and loving people Revolution! We baptized 7 people today. LIFE CHANGE! I am addicted!
Several people gave their lives to Christ. LIFE CHANGE!!!
Micah and the Revolution Band absolutely KILLED it today. We did some new tunes and they rocked our Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” which fit our message perfectly.
Yes I sang a Coolio song during the message.
In one service I talked about Johnny Carson. Everyone under 30 looked at me like “who?” Sad sad sad…I’ll post about Carson this week.
If you did not get to sign up to help at the new location, we need all hands on deck this Friday and Saturday 8am – 5pm. Lunch is on us. And, if you want to see your pastor rocking out some framing (what I used to do), be there.
I am so stinking ready for my wife and kiddo to come home!!!
And now I have to go clean before they get here!

I’ve fallen down on the Sunday mind dumps lately…so here ya go!

AMAZING DAY at Revolution Church! Check it:

We kicked off our new message series “Made” this morning with a message called “Get Dressed.”
Yes, I did share that I have always been fascinated with the Mob. Its true! I own all the great mob movies out and have read several books. Check out this guy. Wanted to have him speak at Revolution, but it will have to wait for another day.
Got to baptize 5 people today! YEAH BABY! The mission is happening!
Did anyone get a pic of me or the band today? We all wore suits to go along with the mob feel of the day. I’m not gonna lie…I looked GOOD.
Our first church plant, Timber Ridge Church in Stephenville, TX had their second preview service today. Fired up for them! They had 2 people accept Christ and great attendance. Love it!
Tommy Hill wrote a rap for the Revolution Band original song “Illuminate” and sang it today. It was INCREDIBLE! I am so proud of Pastor Micah for growing his team, finding the talent God has planted in our church and coaching / pastoring them. Blessed to have a true worship LEADER.
We also had THE Godfather live on stage. Dude just walked up on stage during my sermon and started talking…We need to get a better security team.
Before I was even born, God knew you and set you apart. You are divinely designed and were made for a divine destiny! Its time to get GOD MADE.
Just looked over at my wife. Wow. I cannot believe how beautiful she is. And she married me? My gosh…I am so out of my league…
For some reason, I woke up thinking about this today. One day, I shall participate. Oh yes…

Fights I Don’t Fight #3

Monday I started a series of posts called Fights I Don’t Fight. Yesterday was fight number two.

Day three below…

Fight number three: The fight to be 100% certain.

As followers of Christ much of the time we won’t know the outcome of something unless we jump out in faith. When God says GO we just have to GO!

If you always sit around waiting to be 100% certain that you are making the right move then you won’t ever do anything great for God.

On the other side of the coin, if you are 100% certain about that next big step I would say that you are probably just mistaken and confused. Why? Because God requires faith!

Read through the scriptures and the stories of the heroes of our faith. David taking down Goliath is a great example. Nowhere do we read that David was “100% certain he would kill the giant.” He just took a step of faith and now everyone knows his part of God’s story.

What step of faith is God calling you to take? GO FOR IT. Stop fighting the fight to be 100% certain.

A Few Quick Hits & Mother’s Day

Hey Revolution! Just a heads up…make sure that you bring MOM to church tomorrow. We have a pretty stinking cool surprise planned for all of our mothers at church tomorrow! Get there on time!

A few quick things:

I am PUMPED about closing out the F-BOMB series with a message called “The Guilt Grenade” tomorrow.
I am PUMPED that we get to HONOR our moms tomorrow.
I am PUMPED about the momentum at our church and about all of the life change we are seeing. The vision God gave us to LOVE HIM, LOVE PEOPLE and START A REVOLUTION is happening all around!
I am PUMPED because every single time ONE PERSON surrenders their lives to Christ that person has crossed over from DEATH to LIFE! Check out Luke 15 we see the angels throwing a party over just one person.
I am FIRED UP about our Revolution Kids and Rev’N Rainforest areas because every single Sunday children learn about Jesus in an environment that is custom designed for them. Connie and her team do an amazing job. That is EXCITING for me because I believe the next generation will lead one of the greatest spiritual revolutions this world has ever seen.
