Elijah No, not the Elijah in the Bible…

At Schertz Fest we had people sign up to win an iPod. This little dude, Elijah won. I wish I could have recorded the phone call when I contacted him to tell him that he was the winner. You would have thought he just won $1,000,000,000!!!

He was so pumped up! It was a blast delivering his prize and meeting his family.

I wish I had more to give him than just an iPod.

Wait.

I do.

Elijah, I want to tell you about Jesus.

It wasn’t about an iPod. It was about your eternity.

And I totally blew that one. If you see this blog, watch this short video. I promise I’ll talk to you about it when I see you again.

Wow! What a weekend!

On Friday and Saturday we gave out over 2,000 bags of cotton candy and about 4,000 invites to our first service. Who would have thought sugaring up the city could be such a good outreach? Check it out:

Sunday Mind Dump – FIRST SERVICE

CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY weekend! Let me break it down for you:

Friday and Saturday we gave away about 2,200 bags of Cotton Candy for free. It was sticky and insane! I don’t want to see anymore cotton candy for about a year! I didn’t even eat any and still got sick at my stomach, just from breathing the sugar in!
We also gave away about 3,000 invitations to our first preview service.
Saturday night, our team busted their rears and got some of the setup work done. Mad props goes out to Seth Pennington, our lead setup/tear down man for staying out working until after midnight.
Sunday morning a TERRIBLE storm hit our city. It filled the low-water crossings. I headed to the gym at about 6:30am. Its a 2 mile trip…and it took me about 45 minutes. At one point my Jeep was being swept across the road…luckily I got out of it.
As soon as I got to the gym, most of the team started calling or texting in saying the were stuck. I was texting like crazy because the phones weren’t working very well, but most SMS messages would go through.
One team member, Kayla, called in and was trapped in her car with water pouring in. I was just about to grab some guys and head out to save her when she called back and said her dad had it under control. By the way, KAYLA, YOU ROCK for still coming and serving after going through that!
Finally, the waters started to recede…but there were still road blocks all over the town. One barricade was on the main road that comes to our location…it blocked about half of the city from coming easily.
At the service, we had a total of 70 people, on the dot! GOD ROCKS!
Lots of people made decisions to take some kind of a next step in their life!
After church, we gave away T-shirts, a Troy Aikman autograph, and a Tony Romo autograph at the Tail Gate Party we had. It was a blast!
We also had volunteers come from The Connection Church in Kyle and from Everyday in Schertz to help out. Those volunteers were an absolute blessing! YOU ALL did an amazing job!
I do wonder, how many people would have showed up if there weren’t any barricades or flooding…
When I finally got home at 3:00pm, I cleaned out the block party trailer we are borrowing and packed it.
Then, I sat at the computer to prep our follow up materials, send out emails, and call to thank people for serving.
Now, I am going to CRASH HARD. Taking tomorrow off (haven’t taken any time off in two weeks) and I am running 20 miles in the morning for marathon training. BOOOYYYAAHHH.
There’s a ton more to share, but we’ll save some for another day.

What Goes through Your Head 9 Hours Before Your First Ever Church Service

Its just after 1am. We have 9 hours until our first ever church service at Revolution Church. What goes through your head? Here’s what’s going through mine:

Why am I getting all these good ideas NOW?
I hope there are plenty of volunteers to help us rock it out.
If nobody shows up tomorrow I am going to buy a bullet and rent a gun.
If everybody we invited shows up tomorrow we will have to move into the Alamo Dome to hold them all.
I hope we can make the gym not smell like cheerleader sweat.
I hope we have enough parking.
I hope I am not wearing my team into the ground through this long long weekend. I pray that they get GOOD rest tonight.
Are we REALLY having church tomorrow? Holy cow…
Please Jesus make the rain stop in the morning.
Jesus please make my wife feel better!
I need a haircut.
What if my alarm doesn’t go off?
T-shirt (which will show some of my tattoos) or long sleeve (cover ‘em up.)
