- The band was absolutely INCREDIBLE today. I would put the music up in our top ten Sunday’s ever. ROCKING!
- It was SOOOO NICE to be back at The Connection Church this morning!
- It was even cooler to be preaching! I preached over Romans 8:5-16. INTENSE STUFF. I’ll be posting more about it this week, so check back in.
- We had Baptism at our neighborhood pool today. The river is all dried up. It had a little different feel to it, but all that matters is that lives are changed. Way to go Connection Church! Each week, lives are changed for the better because of your willingness to serve God and His vision for our Church!
- My homies at Newspring Church launched a new campus in a new town this morning. Those guys challenge me to no end! Go Newspring!
- Also, my brother from another mother Alex Alexander launched a new campus with his church this morning. Alex is someone I look up to. I was praying for his Church last night and this morning I get a message that he is praying for me. What a classy guy; I needed prayer today.
- That said, Bram Floria came backstage, put his hand on my back, and prayed for me this morning. He was a God send because I needed it today.
- Rafael Marquez came up to me at Baptism and said, “Zak, I’m getting Baptized today because of how God spoke to me through your talk this morning.” Man it is an incredible privilege to have the opportunity to get up and share about Jesus!
- I am ready to blog like crazy this week.
- I have a TON to do this week.
- We finished planning our August series…all I’ll say is that it is going to be the HOTTEST Connection Church message series EVER!
- I sold my old iPhone on Ebay and bought the new one on Friday. I’m loving it (the new 3G network is FAST) but the battery life is TERRIBLE. I’m going to have to buy a car charger, something I’ve never had.
- It was awesome to see Rene’s face when we gave him his new drum set this morning. I’ll have video of it up this week.
Sunday Mind Dump
The Frontline Don’t Play Games…
Alex Alexander from Lake Hills Church in Austin was at church this past Sunday checking out TCC. We asked him to swing by and give us an evaluation and share some thoughts with us. One of the biggest Today he posted some thoughts about his experience. Check it out here.
As you can see from Alex’s thoughts, our Frontline Team is EXTREMELY important! Notice, he doesn’t say the sermon was great. He doesn’t compliment the music. He only points out that he was warmly welcomed. The fact is this: people want a comfortable place where they can be noticed and loved for who they are.
Connection Church, I am proud of you! Its all because of your dedication to serving our powerful God that TCC continues to reach people! I am looking forward to hooking up with Alex when we get back in town to hear some of his other input. Alex, don’t be nice to us. And please, help me convince my wife that I need cool, long, flowing, wavy hair like you…
Networking with Alex Alexander
Cole and I hooked up with Alex Alexander from Lake Hills Church for a good talkin’ shop session this morning. I love this guy and have admired him since the day I met him, even though he called me a “bulldog” this morning…Alex, what if I called you “Same Name Same Name?”
He does the same thing for LHC that I do here at our church – everything.
Talking with Alex today helped Cole and I make some decisions. We’re changing our Mother’s Day message, making some adjustments to our Connection 101 Church Membership Class, and dreaming about our next hire. We are wayyyy overdue on getting some more pastoral staff!
As our church grows and we enter new territory that is foreign to me, I feel the need to network and hook up with guys like Alex who are just a little further down the road than we are and who are gracious enough to share about their journey.
I don’t ever want to reach a point as a pastor, or in my personal life, where I think I have it all down. I can learn something from everyone. And we have a long way to go at TCC! Whenever I stop reading, listening to other pastors and don’t network with other leaders I get discouraged. I want to always tap in to the collective wisdom of other people who are much wiser than me.
I know too many pastors who create for themselves the pressure of having to come up with every new idea -THAT robs you of your joy fast.
To Alex and everyone who has poured their life into mine, thank you. Its nice to be a leader and have someone to follow at the same time.
