Phenomenon Week 3 Gerry ROCKS It OUT!

Last night was week 3 of NBC’s Phenomenon. I’ve been watching the show to help suppress my longing to see Jack Bauer’s face on my TV. I am a magician here in our area and I do my own shows, so this is the first reality TV show that has been really appealing to me.

I have been cheering for the sole female in the competition, Angela Funovits. But last night I was torn once again. Gerry McCambridge is quickly becoming my new favorite. I love his style. His act last night was hilarious but serious, fun but intriguing, and absolutely mind-blowing. I loved it! Mike Super did an amazing voodoo act too. I love Mike’s style…great jokes and serious moments all in one act.

Angela Funovits’ effect was nice, but overall dull I thought. She executed the act very well as always though. Eran Raven still has me so freaked out that I can barely process his act. Did he really get bit by that snake? WOWOOOWWWWWWOOWOOWWW! If someone sneaks up on me and wins this thing it will be Eran Raven. As for who is still in the competition, that leaves Guy Bavli. Blah. He should have gone home on week 1.

Who went home? I knew that Jim Callahan had ensured his demise when he clashed with Criss Angel last week. I’m not a fan of Angel, but America is. Oops. Hacking off the people who vote for you to stay on the show IS a bad strategy after all Jim…

I can’t believe that Wayne Hoffman was sent packing. That guy is an outstanding performer! And last, Jan Bardi went home…surprise surprise…

I guess it’s like anything else. My perspective is going to be different than the masses because I love the art. It’s more than entertainment for me…sort of like the difference between a bowler like me and a professional. I just get out there and throw the bowling ball, but a real bowler knows the different spins, angles, etc necessary to win…and he LOVES the game.

Capisce?

Phenomenon Week 2 – Criss Angel vs. Jim Callahan

Since the new season of 24 hasn’t started yet, I had to find some other poor show to follow and naturally, I chose the next best thing to watching Jack Bauer kill and torture tons of terrorists…magic. I am a magician here in our area and I do my own shows, so what could be better than a magical reality show right?

I’m still deciding if I made the right choice. Last night was week 2 of NBC’s Phenomenon. This guy named Jim Callahan tried to “channel” a dead spirit on live television. Stupid. In my opinion, that has NOTHING to do with magic. But whatever…stupid.

Criss Angel got angry and challenged Callahan to read the contents of an envelope he had sealed in his pocket. Criss said he’d pay 1 million dollars to either Jim or Uri if they could do it. That’s the same thing that skeptic James Randi has done for a while now.

Jim Callahan proceeded to get mad and started yelling at Criss Angel saying he was an “ideological bigot.” HAHA! Instant Jerry Springer Live Magic Show…Thank goodness that the fight was broken up because if callahan and angel got into it hell could have opened up and we could have all been consumed by demons right?

So, once again, I am torn. Criss Angel bugs me. Jim Callahan bugs me WAY MORE. Or does he? I’m not sure…Stupid. See? I can’t even type his name without typing “stupid” right after it. Sorry Jim.

Bottom line is this: Angela Funovits had better win. She rocked it out! Click HERE to see the clip from Halloween night of the fight…

Phenomenon. Lame?

Phoenomenon debuted tonight on NBC. It is basically ameican idol but with magicians instead of vocalists. I was excited about the show when I first heard about it but then as I thought about it, I feared that it would be LAME-OOOOO. Was I right?

Uri Geller, one of the judges on the show, actually did this show already in Israel (where he is from) a few years back. It was called “Uri Geller is Looking for the New Uri Geller.” Gotta hand it to NBC…at least their title is better…

I was excited because I love the art of magic and illusions. I even do my own shows.

Will I say it IS lame? Not yet. But here is what I thought of tonight’s show:

  • Uri Geller. I like Uri more than Criss Angel. He hasn’t ever answered my fan-mail though…
  • Criss Angel. Bahhhh. That guy hacks me off. ARRRGGGG! I HATED how he spat off about the creator of one of the effects. That is the kind of information that most magicians don’t just give out on national television. It is sensitive info that could ruin careers. Of course, Criss doesn’t care…he is in it for the money as best as I can tell.
  • The magicians who competed tonight. BAHHH…
  • The remaining magicians who will compete next week? YESSS! It has potential next week. I have met or spoken with three of next week’s performers: Angela Funovits, Wayne Hoffman, and Mike Super. These three performers are INCREDIBLE. I have followed their careers since day one. LOVE them.

I want Angela Funovits to win. I guess just because of the connection…plus, she will be seen as an underdog. You HAVE to love this clipping from the offical website. Look at everyone’s descriptions. I guess really, she isn’t even a magician…

Another thing I am hacked about: Jim Callahan being on the show. I hate the whole paranormalist thing. Give me a break. Oh, and one prediction from this magician: the effects will get better as the show goes on. They are doing their cheesy stuff for this first round.
