8 Years

Amber and I got married pretty early in life. I was a month away from turning 20 (yes, do the math…I was only 19) and she was 21. We had a lot of people telling us it would never work, but I felt like God was saying DO IT. God sort of has a way of drowning out those other voices. So we went for it.

And my life has never been the same.

Because of the naysayers, marrying Amber was one of my first big steps of faith. That was eight years ago today and I wouldn’t change a single thing.

And of course, insert “oh my gosh you look young” honeymoon picture. As I’ve stated before right after this picture was taken I murdered the pirate for pointing that gun at me. ARRRRRRRR…

And last, I want to share right here, in public:

To Amber: You are the most amazing person I know in this world. Thank you for loving me and letting me be the leader of our family. I can’t wait to live out the rest of this life with you by my side! I am who I am in part because YOU believe in me. I will continue to pray with and for you just like I have since day one of our marriage. Our relationship is first and foremost about God. Let’s keep it that way.

I still catch myself checking you out every day when I come home for lunch and each evening when we are together. I will continue to pursue you romantically every day just like when we first met in 6th grade!

The Number 7

The number 7 is usually equated with the idea of perfection. It has all kinds of spiritual significance all throughout the Bible too.

But today, the number 7 is special to me because Amber and I have been married 7 years! We went out Saturday night to celebrate at The Melting Pot (pics of me making stupid faces below.) First, some lubby dubby thoughts:

  • Amber is simply incredible. If I could choose anyone, anywhere, I wouldn’t change a thing. I still catch myself checking her out all the time. I cannot believe that I get to be her husband.
  • Amber takes care of me and makes me the man I am. If you don’t believe me, just watch how I fall apart when she leaves town for a week to visit family. I end up looking like a bum who needs a shave, smells bad, and is hungry.
  • Pursuing Amber romantically every day is important to me. Sometimes, I fail miserably, but she still loves me.
  • I want our marriage to be creative. That’s why we work so hard at it. The last thing I ever want to become is the topic at the ladies tea table. When all the other women start griping about their husbands, I want Amber to be able to brag on me and stand out as the woman with the most loving husband around!
  • We first met in 6th grade! Our first date was our Junior prom and we’ve been together ever since. I still love holding her hand, opening the door for her, and writing mushy notes to her.
  • I absolutely dig The Connection Church. But not as much as Amber. I eat, sleep and breathe TCC, but I refuse to put TCC before my family. If I ever do, somebody slap the snot outta me.
  • To Couper: one of the best ways I can do to show you what it means to be a Godly man is to love your momma. That’s why when I come home, momma gets a kiss and hug before you. Momma just comes first. That’s what all the date nights are for. So just get used to the baby sitter thing. :)
  • Our marriage is first and foremost about God. That makes it even more amazing!

Here’s some pics from our 7 year celebration the other night. They aren’t the best cause all I had with me was the iPhone…
