Race Results and Sunday Mind Dump

My Race results from today:

26.2 miles in 4 hours, 17 minutes, 28 seconds. YEAH BABY!

Out of 34,000 runners I placed 2,574th.

Out of male only runners I placed 1756.

Out of men age 25-29 I placed 181.

I’m happy with my results. My “dream goal” was under 4 hours. My actual goal was 4 hours 20 minutes, so I just made it! You can see my splits by clicking the image.

  • I missed church today…It KILLS me to miss our services!
  • That said, I got a good report from TONS of people about church today including my neighbor, which is an AWESOME thing!
  • I had several people filling in for me today and they did GREAT! Shep, Kamala, Rick, Douglas, and Eric, THANK YOU for rocking the tech ministry today!
  • Thanks to everyone who prayed for me at 10:30 this morning. I was on about mile 21 in my race at that time and it must have worked because I never got tired!!! In fact, my results show that I actually sped up at that time!
  • My legs are a little sore, but not as much as I thought they’d be after running 26.2 miles. I’m sure I’ll be feeling it tomorrow BIG TIME.
  • I ran with my Dad. It was a blast! Then we got separated, my nose bled like crazy, and I swear I saw him go by me. I finished taking care of my nose and then ran fast to catch up to him and it turned out to be someone else with the same shirt and hat. By then I was on mile 22 and feeling great, so I just finished the race strong. I thought Dad would be ahead of me but he wasn’t. Made me feel bad that we didn’t finish together.
  • During the race, I ate TONS of candy, 1 banana, 6 packets of GU, and downed a TON of CYTOMAX.
  • By the way, CYTOMAX is everything that Gatorade wishes it could be…
  • It was so nice to NOT have to watch Texas Tech on TV this weekend. They had an off week. Man, I hope they get the SNOT kicked out of them this weekend!
  • Stick around the blog this week and I’ll explain why I would punish myself by running a 26.2 mile race…

Sleeping Strike

Couper is wearing us thin lately. He is on a sleeping strike that is lasting way too long. We’re all going looney. I guess this is just part of parenthood.

Bedtime used to be one of my favorite parts of the day. I gave Couper his bath, we read a story, we prayed and sang a song, turned the lights off and he went to sleep. Now it is hour upon hour of pure chaos.

Seasoned parents, help this family out. How do we get the kid to sleep?

The HUMAN RACE

I am running in the Nike Plus HUMAN RACE this Sunday evening. The race is being put on by Nike to raise money for a few different charities that are doing awesome things. I chose for my race fee to support this charity. We have a good group of people from The Connection Church going. It’s cool because most races happen on Sunday mornings, which pretty much excludes me. :)

But this one is Sunday evening. Lance Armstrong will be running with me (like how I worded that?) and I’d love for you to be there too. Go register now…its not to late yet. Don’t be intimidated – there will be tons of people walking this race.

Or, if you aren’t into running the 6.2 miles, you can sign up to volunteer at the race. They’ll give you a free t-shirt and access to the Ben Harper concert if you help out with this good cause.

Nike released the course map today. Check it out and sign up! Come run with some cool Connectors!

Walking Targets

Earlier in the week, I blogged a list of the things I am passionate about. Then I blogged about why I’m passionate about them.

And it got me thinking about something else that happens when you are passionate. You become a big walking target.

Passionate leaders have huge targets painted on their backs.

Sometimes Satan brings it. Heavy. He beats us down. Last week he did it to me. He’s a punk.

That’s why I keep the poster in my office where I can see it every day that simply says, “Whatever it takes.” I understand that to reach people others aren’t reaching, you have to do what others aren’t doing.

There’s a lot of lone ranger leaders out there getting the beat down and losing their passion. What they ARE NOT doing is getting back up…why? Because they haven’t built a team around them.

When you get shot in the leg, you need someone to grab you and pull you along if you’re going to keep fighting. Otherwise, you’ll just lay there and bleed.

And that’s why I get up and keep going every day, no matter how hard I get beat down. Its because I have an incredible team built around me.

Bring it Satan. My team rocks…
