Phenomenon Week 2 – Criss Angel vs. Jim Callahan

Since the new season of 24 hasn’t started yet, I had to find some other poor show to follow and naturally, I chose the next best thing to watching Jack Bauer kill and torture tons of terrorists…magic. I am a magician here in our area and I do my own shows, so what could be better than a magical reality show right?

I’m still deciding if I made the right choice. Last night was week 2 of NBC’s Phenomenon. This guy named Jim Callahan tried to “channel” a dead spirit on live television. Stupid. In my opinion, that has NOTHING to do with magic. But whatever…stupid.

Criss Angel got angry and challenged Callahan to read the contents of an envelope he had sealed in his pocket. Criss said he’d pay 1 million dollars to either Jim or Uri if they could do it. That’s the same thing that skeptic James Randi has done for a while now.

Jim Callahan proceeded to get mad and started yelling at Criss Angel saying he was an “ideological bigot.” HAHA! Instant Jerry Springer Live Magic Show…Thank goodness that the fight was broken up because if callahan and angel got into it hell could have opened up and we could have all been consumed by demons right?

So, once again, I am torn. Criss Angel bugs me. Jim Callahan bugs me WAY MORE. Or does he? I’m not sure…Stupid. See? I can’t even type his name without typing “stupid” right after it. Sorry Jim.

Break it Down…

Trunk or Treat went EXTREMELY well. We ran out of parking and there were TONS of people there.
Not a perfect way to really estimate attendance, but I would say about 1,750-2,000 people came through the event.
Next year, we need MORE Trunks and games fo’ sheezy. There were lines at EVERY trunk all night long!
I had a blast helping with the hayride all night.
Do wish I could have been with my family a little more though…it was Couper’s first Halloween. Check out the pics below! He was a rooster on the farm and Amber’s mom dressed as a nest to match Couper! HAHA!
Our Trunk or Treat team BLOWS MY MIND each year! Nate and Nelli did an amazing job as site directors. The parking team rocked it out and put some serious hours on their 2 way radios. The food service team cranked out our patented “Franken Wraps” (a hot dog frank in a tortilla) FASTER than ever before! EVERYONE did an incredible job.
THAT SAID, the HEROES of the night were the 6 or 7 people who stayed extra late to help pick up all of the trash. That school parking lot looked BETTER when we left than when we got there and when you have that many people eating franken wraps and candy and dropping trash all over the place, leaving it that spotless is tough. AWESOME JOB to those of you who cleaned up!
Also, AWESOME JOB to Frances Geiger and Kristi West for organizing the whole event and taking care of all the little details!
There were a lot of awesome costumes, but I still think the amounts of money that some of us pay for costumes is absolutely ridiculous. $50 for something you wear one night? Most people would say that a $50 pair of jeans is just too expensive, but at least you get to wear those over and over and over for years…I don’t get it. Be creative. There are TONS of costumes that you can make yourself for under $10…stupid Halloween costume shops…
For me, the Halloween fun began when Cole and I went to see the Chuey Spewis and the Screws show. Chuey Spewis and the Screws is Kevin’s band that plays ONE SHOW per year…at which they do ONLY HUEY LEWIS and the NEWS COVERS! MAN IT ROCKED! TCC’s very own Ron Johns (keys) and Jacob Hildebrand (lead guitars) are also in the band. Pic below!
Now, time to focus on our Something So Big Commitment Sunday this weekend! SEE YOU THERE!

Halloween, Trunk or Treat, and All That…

It’s HAAAALLLLOOWWEEEENNN. Some thoughts:

Trunk or Treat is going to ROCK tonight.
I HATE Halloween costume stores. I went in one yesterday and had to shield my eyes because all of the women’s costumes are so filthy.
Why in the WORLD do all the costumes for women have to be so nasty? Slut-O-Ween? What?
I am going to see a band play tonight that will be doing ONLY Huey Lewis and the News songs all night after Trunk or Treat with Cole…YESSSS!
Cole is Pastor of the Day today with The River…and he just happens to be Pastor of the Day on the MOST EVIL DAY of the year…HMMMMMM…
My Connection Group is doing the COOLEST game/booth at Trunk or Treat. There will even be a little rooster present that bites and has two teeth. Check out the pic…

Why is Zak Shaking a Little Today?

Wow. What a crazy day. I wanted to blog earlier, but couldn’t. Here is why:

This morning I spent 2 hours on the phone with Applecare only to find out that our Powermac G5 at the office needs a new optical drive. No BIG deal, except for that our Applecare runs out in 5 days. And two of those days are weekend days, on which absolutely NOTHING happens in the way of repairs.

So I made a few calls, found an external hard drive I could borrow just big enough to grab about 10 gigs of files that I would need for the next week, copied the files, unplugged the computer, hoped in the car, and shot up to the Apple store to visit the Genius Bar. I LOVE the Apple store. If there is a place to get stuck dealing with crud THAT is the place. Plenty of stuff to keep me happy for hours.

I was there for about an hour, got incredible antsy and decided to put The Connection Church Website up on every stinking computer screen in the place. It was hilarious. Those guys were looking around like…”WHHHAAAATTT???” Also, it gave me some time to learn about Leopard while I waited.

When we were finally finished they made me sign a sheet of paper saying they weren’t responsible if our data gets damaged or erased…THAT SCARED THE CRUD OUT OF ME. Here is why it scares me: Every single sermon, graphic, video, website code, etc that we have ever done at TCC is on that machine.

So, tonight I blog for one simple reason…pray for the powermac as it goes into surgery.

Not really. Instead, pray that we will still be able to get everything done for our HUGE Commitment Sunday this weekend!
