Trappstr 28 – Part 1

My new blog buddy Brett Trapp wrote this post on 28 things he’s learned in his 20′s.

Since I’m so much older and wiser than him…about 3 months older and wiser…and since I loved it so much, I thought I’d take each of those things and elaborate on them over the next several days. Or maybe I’ll get tired of it half way through…

Here are the first few:

1. People, for the most part, have lots of baggage. And what’s funny is that most people walk around thinking their situation is unique or unusual. But we’re all in the same boat. -Trappstr

Yup. Everyone carries baggage. And what we all need is a baggage handler. We all need someone that we can be REAL, GRITTY and HONEST with; someone who can help us handle our baggage.

This is why we’ve created Running Partners at Revolution. In the same way athletes train to reach physical goals, we need spiritual training partners to provide encouragement, pacing and motivation for spiritual goals. Running Partners encourage one another to become all God intends us to be.

Listen to this message for more elaboration on how we live this out at Revolution.

2. Enthusiasm wins. In all situations. -Trappstr

Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

I get accused of having too much enthusiasm often. My buddy Clayton Bell thinks I need to learn to chill. But I always wonder if I am enthusiastic enough. I’ve learned that enthusiasm does indeed win, but even more important, that its CONTAGIOUS. I like to be a carrier of it, spewing it all over the place.

Mind Dump (of INSANITY)

Mind Dump:

  • I decided at about 10:30pm last night to run a half marathon (13.1 miles) with my dad and brother this morning.  I beat my last time by 6 minutes…but I am SORE.  In vegas, I wasn’t sore at all…Austin has hills.  Plus I haven’t been training any the last two months.  Not the best idea ever, but I’m just glad I did well.  :)
  • Missed the first service for the marathon, but the 2nd and 3rd services ROCKED today.
  • We had Ferret filling in for Jacob on lead guitar again today.  Let me just say this.  THAT GUY FREAKING ROCKS.
  •  We wrapped up the message series “Baggage” today.  The past 4 Sundays have been some of the most powerful I can ever remember at The Connection Church.  Great job team!
  • The third service was NOISY with kids today.  Friends, seriously, take your kids to their age appropriate ministry area at church.  Your toddler doesn’t understand anything Cole is talking about in the service.  They get nothing out of it.  Except for how to make the most noise possible with an ink pen and a metal chair.  We care wayyyyy too much about our kids to bore them to death at church each week, so take them where they belong.  Plus, you’ll be able to focus on the service rather than having to wrangle your kid for an hour.
  • Speaking of how much we care about kids, the new series is called “Kiddos!”  It is going to be AWESOME!  Check it out and send everyone you know an EVITE by going HERE.
  • Someone is going around our subdivision stealing things out of cars.  Several people in the church have had things taken, including us.  Whoever is doing it, Jesus loves you, and I love you, but if I catch you, I am going to hit you in the leg with a baseball bat.  Hard.
  • Couper is getting tooth number 7.  How many more?  Long week ahead.  :(
  • One of my closest buddies, Ben Branam, shared some stuff with me this week that rocked my world.  I’ll be sharing it with you this week…
  • Cole just called me (at 10:30pm) and asked me if I moved a cabinet back in place that goes in the cafeteria at the school.  Random Cole.  Funny Cole.
  • Wayne and Mari (thanks Maria, spelling!) Bryant are moving to Las Vegas Nevada tomorrow.  They’ll be gone for 18 months.  I have known the Bryants for longer than most people at our church because they were members at my last church.  They hold a special place in my heart!  I’ll miss their 4 giggling girls bad.  Please pray for them as they make the long nasty drive starting tomorrow!
  • Anyone got any good new music they are listening to?

What do you want to hear?

We have some sweet messages planned in the next month for The Connection Church:

  •  Our last message of 2007 is called “Snapshot.”  Cole will be sharing about where we have been this year and where we are going in 2008.  Don’t miss it!
  • On January 6th, we will be starting a new series, different from anything we have ever done at TCC.  It is called Baggage.
    • The idea in this series is that we all carry around baggage that we really need to let go of.
    • God is ready for us to check that baggage in to Him, permanently, but we have to be willing and ready to let go.
    • We’ll be talking about depression, all kinds of emotional baggage, addictions that we deal with, and how God wants to free us from it all

Cole and I spent some time dreaming and planning recently for 2008 and here is what I have to say about it:  2008 is going to be GREAT!  Scratch that…2008 is going to be ABSOLUTELY OFF THE HOOK INCREDIBLE!!!

What do you want to hear about at TCC in 2008?  What topics and issues do you need help with?
