Books for Sale or for Store?

I packed up most of my office yesterday and it reminded me of how much I hate storing and especially moving books. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to read. But to be realistic, typically after I read a book, I don’t open it again. It…just…sits. Not only do they take up space, they also make you have higher rent or a higher house payment because of the extra square footage needed to store them.23816128_d4acb70b2d

So, I’m thinking about selling ALL of my books that I have read on Amazon and buying a Kindle or at least using the library for a change.

What do you think? Should a pastor keep all of his books? Do people think you have some sort of credibility because there are a bunch of books on a shelf?

Or can a “ditch the clutter” freak like me get rid of all his books and be just fine?

Books take up an awful lot of space, especially for something that you really only use for a few months and then store for years. I haven’t missed owning hard copies of albums on cd, tape, or vinyl. Why would I miss my books?

How can I justify my desire for compact, organized living when we have so many little rectangular objects taking up shelf/closet/floor space in my home?

Share your thoughts.

I wish Amazon had a trade in program of some kind where you could send in all your books and get Kindle copies of them…

Books Books BOOKS!

pile-of-bookOne of my goals (more on all of my 2009 goals soon) for 2009 is going to be to read 50 books. I think. Maybe 40. Not sure yet…

I need to be a more avid reader.  So, I am compiling a list. Its getting there. I need some help though.

And don’t say “The Bible.” The Bible goes without saying; it is a non-negotiable. Putting the Bible on a reading list is like putting breathing on a to-do list. It is a given.

What books would you recommend that I read?

Sometimes Books are LOOONNNNGGGG.

Usually after I finish a book, no matter how much I love it, I feel it was too long. Sometimes, I don’t understand why we can’t say things in simple, short ways. I love the idea that if you can’t say it in a simple way, then you probably don’t understand it yourself.

Seth Godin had an interesting post on this today.

Something that comes to mind is the book that Tim Stevens is working on. He keeps talking about his word count and how it has to reach a certain number of words to be done. Do publishers tell you how many words they want in the book? If so, that is TERRIBLE. Why not just write the book and say what you want to say. Having a contract with a required word count in it would encourage the writer to add extra junk that doesn’t need to be in the book and ultimately wastes my (the reader’s) time.

:) Just some thoughts. What are yours?
