Let’s Get Dangerous this SUNDAY

This Sunday we kick off a new, two week message series called “Let’s Get Dangerous.” The message of Christ was not safe. The early church was not safe. And as modern day believers we are not called to be safe.

We always paint Jesus as being this meek man. Quiet. Long flowing hair. Its sickening. :)

I heard this week that the original word we translate as “meek” in the greek actually meant “War Horse.” War horses were trained to run into battle and do WHATEVER their rider said. They would literally run into a sword or spear for their leader. Sounds pretty dangerous to me…

I hope you’ll join us Sunday. Let’s Get Dangerous!

Also this weekend we are launching two services! Our new times are 9:30 & 11:00am. See you Sunday!

Ketchup Catching Up

Heinz has been making Ketchup in the SAME little packages for over 40 years. This past week, they announced a new version of their famous Ketchup packets. The new “Dip & Squeeze” packets can be opened in two ways. Check out the video below.

After four decades, Heinz has decided to change.

Sometimes I wonder if we actually do want things to change.

When things change, we have to learn new systems and alter the way we work. Sometimes its extremely tough to change.

Often we give up on ideas, because even though we want things to change, we don’t really want to give anything up to make the change happen.

BUT we need that change. If we are going to see the local church become a creative, compassionate and powerful force in our communities we need to continue to innovate!

The 492 Year Old Revolution

Today is Halloween, but I also like to remember it as Reformation Day. A revolution began 492 years ago that changed the face of the Earth today.

In the early 1500′s, roman catholic theology stated that faith alone, whether fiduciary or dogmatic, cannot justify man; and that only such faith as is active in charity and good works can justify man. In other words the benefits of good works or faith could now be obtained by donating money to the church or by going through certain motions.

Whoops.

martin-lutherOn October 31st in 1517 a man named Martin Luther wrote to Albrecht, an Archbishop of the Catholic church, protesting the sale of indulgences; that is this idea that you could be justified with money. In his letter he included his “Disputation of Martin Luther on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences,” which came to be known as The 95 Theses.

And the world changed…forever.

You can read more about Martin Luther and the reformation here.

But what I would really encourage you to do is read through the 95 Theses if you never have. Incredible stuff and amazing how God could use one man to do something so big and Earth shaking.

Click here to download a PDF of the 95 Theses for your reading enjoyment.

God, use me to do something so big, so much greater than anything I’ve ever imagined or dreamed…like Martin Luther.
