The Fat Trail Runner

Let me start by saying this. If you are going to be offended by one cuss word, don’t click the link below. Also, don’t read the story of Balaam’s Donkey in Numbers chapter 22…ok…on we go…

I’m not going to lie. This blog post by my buddy Rafael (The Fat Trail Runner) got me pumped up and encouraged the heck out of me. Why? Because he pretty much hit the nail on the head. I want to be everything he said…and more for the people that God puts in my life.

Thanks Rafael. I needed that. If you ever see me slowing down, smack me around a little bit.

We have a Baby Registry…

We set up a baby registry today…uh oh…

But, its not what you think. Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

There are a bunch of things we need to buy to enable the new church plant in Schertz to do Sunday mornings, outreach events, small groups, children’s ministry, etc.

photo6Today, one of our launch team members, Seth Pennington, helped us scratch one BIG item off the list of stuff we need by beginning work on a HUGE custom GRILL. This grill will be used in block parties and outreach events galore.

I am amazed at some of the ways God is moving considering we don’t even have a church name yet. WOW!

Before someone has a baby we throw them a baby shower and “shower” them with gifts to help them jump start their new life with a child. In the same way, perhaps you could buy us a present before we give birth to this new church.

You can see a PDF of our list here. There are things on the list ranging from Bibles to hand out for $60 all the way up to a sound system for $15,000.

To give a gift, simply pick the item on the list that you’d like to give towards and then send a check made out to “TCC” for that amount to:

TCC
P.O. Box 2225
Kyle, TX 78640

On the memo line put, “New Church” and then indicate the exact item you want your money to go towards.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the needs of this new church plant!

I’ve Got the Joy Joy Joy Joy Joy Joy

You can have happiness or joy. Only one will last.

Take my week thus far as an example. So far this week I have:

  • been pretty sick
  • had blurred vision
  • found out I have a birth defect called Asymetrical Facet on one of my vertebrae
  • found out that I may have to stop running
  • missed out on seeing or holding Nic’s new baby boy Hayden because of my sickness
  • had to get a broken laptop fixed
  • dealt with a handful of crazy crazy issues at work
  • spent hours of un-planned time on a new website and issues it is having
  • last, to top it all off, my only flip flops broke

Have I been super happy this week? Not necessarily. But I’ve been joyful because God is rocking my world right now in so many ways.

Happiness happens when things go well. Joy on the other hand comes from something deep within us. Joy does not depend on more money, nicer cars, or expensive vacations. Joy is something entirely different from happiness.

When happiness fades away, joy remains.  Joy is bigger than any current circumstances. Joy brings peace during the stormy seasons of life. God gives us joy through the Holy Spirit.

Joy is important to the believer and Satan loves to try to steal joy.  He’ll even use things that will give you temporary happiness sometimes to distract you and make you think that you have joy.

There is a big difference between joy and happiness.  Happiness is temporary emotion that comes from external things. Joy however is an attitude bred deep in our hearts.

The Bible says a LOT about joy. You should check out these verses. They have been keeping me going this week!

Out on a Limb

I wasn’t sure about posting this, but here it goes…I’m typically an open book, but this can be a touchy subject.

I’ve been saving a little here and there for two years and finally, I have an appointment with an amazing tattoo artist in Austin. I’m heading to get some new ink in a couple of weeks. Yes, I know. Pastor? Tattoo? What?

Just need your help…What do you think I should get?

A. The words “TO LIVE IS CHRIST” in script across my chest. Pretty self explanatory. Philippians 1:21

B. An old school anchor.  In ancient times the anchor, like the fish, was a symbol with ties to the early Christian church. An anchor tattoo can be thought of as holding one steadfast, like an anchor holding a great sailing ship safe in harbor, against winds and currents that might carry it astray.

C. OTHER. You pick…nothing ridiculous like a picture of Cole or Nic. :)

Go ahead, share your thoughts. My mind is basically made up, but I’m curious to see others’ thoughts.
