Vollapalooza

We are having a party Friday night for EVERYONE who serves at Revolution. Its called Vollapalooza. Its going to be EPIC. We’ve got food. Games. Prizes. An entire pool rented out. Cupcakes galore. Did I say prizes? And I mean GOOD prizes. Like a flatscreen TV! SO, if you serve at Revolution Church, don’t miss it. Bring the entire family to the Pickrell Park Pool at 7:45pm friday night! RSVP HERE please.

I want to thank every volunteer who serves at Revolution. Team, you are amazing! It is refreshing to pastor a church where the volunteers understand that the staff cannot do it alone. A church is most effective when the body ministers to the body!

The church cannot become a one man show unless that one man is JESUS!

As a church, each of us is called to pour in and own a ministry. Church is not just about receiving ministry. Yes, there are times that each of us needs to ministered to. But most of the time we need to be the ones ministering!

I love serving with you Revolution! I really believe that if we continue to serve our hearts our and pray our guts out that we will be unstoppable when it comes to starting spiritual revolutions in one life at a time!

Recognize, Submit & Wear Board Shorts

Friday night I was praying asking God if there was anything else I could do to help take the step of Baptism on Sunday. And I felt like God spoke in a very profound, spiritual, deep way. He said “Preach in your board shorts pastor!”

I have to admit, it was incredibly uncomfortable for me to preach in my board shorts this past Sunday, but check out the results of what can happen when we let God call the shots:

Interns

This summer, we had our first intern at Revolution Church. He did an amazing job and learned a lot (I hope!) about ministry!

I think I probably learned much more. Here is what I learned:

  • Instead of an internship, next summer (or before) we will have an internship program designed to give participants an inside look into our unique and exciting ministry environment.
  • Internships need to be seen as a privilege and a great honor.
  • When we hear “intern” we typically think of busy work, running errands, making copies…but effective internship programs need to meld that busy work (c’mon…part of it IS busy work) with being a contributing team member!
  • Interns need to work hard! Changing the world is HARD WORK.
  • Interns need to be positive.
  • Interns need to have an incredible attitude!
  • An application process is important.
  • Lead Pastors need to be careful how buddy buddy they are with the intern(s).
  • Interns need to be given some BIG responsibilities (like a BIG summer outreach project). And, when you hand them something that big, make sure you’ve run your risk analysis figures, because interns may cost you money.
  • Interns can’t drive (sorry Cody, had to get one jab in at you.)
  • Interns need a de-briefing before they wrap up their internship. A time when you can be brutally honest about things you have seen in their life.
  • Interns need to read Scripture! Hand them a reading plan the day they start and tell them that their number one job over the course of the internship program is to grow closer to Jesus. Have them journal and share with you. EVERY. DAY.
  • Interns need to leave your church radically dedicated to Jesus!
  • Give interns a shot at something BIG.
  • Don’t underestimate the power of the intern. Interns can do HUGE things! At the same time, they can cause a LOT of damage, really fast.
  • Inters need to have a servants heart. Make them mow the lawn at the church at least one time on a day when its 105 degrees outside.
  • Interns need to be organized.
  • Interns need to be on time!

Another Brain Buster

Still blown away by how God rocked at Revolution yesterday. Here are a few more thoughts:

  • I cannot believe all that God is doing at Revolution right now! Who says summer has to be a “down time” for church. We don’t believe in down time at Revolution!
  • Yesterday we talked about how the reason that so many Christ followers never see God breakthrough in a big way is because they won’t trust God and be faithful in the small things. What small step is God calling you to take? He wants to blow your mind, but He’s waiting to see if He can trust you with what is now so that He can trust you with what is next!
  • Nobody is perfect. At Revolution, we believe that there is a significant step that ALL OF US can take towards God. That’s why we say that no perfect people are allowed at Revolution. We just don’t think that anyone has it figured out. :)
  • I believe that if we continue to take steps both privately and corporately as a church, that God will continue to breakthrough in our community and that the message of Jesus will become completely unstoppable in our area. It will become VERY HARD to get to hell from Schertz, TX. We will literally see the church become all that God intended for her to be!
  • In Ephesians 3:20 the Bible tells us that God has dreams much bigger than ours! We are literally seeing this verse proved to us each week at Revolution Church!
  • Yesterday was Cody Atkinson’s (our intern) last day with us. Today is his last day in the office with me. I am going to miss the dude. But don’t tell him I said that.
  • That said, I learned a LOT about having an intern. More on that soon.
