Kill the Petty

I think we need to get fed up with the petty.

I don’t know about you, but I am tired of  senseless barriers and constraints. I am fed up with non-stop interruptions. I’m sick of the need to get approval or permission. The illusion that you have to be “amazing” or “experienced” or “ready.” The fairytale that you need to know what you’re doing…

These things are petty and will not help you get closer to your dream.

Let me ask you this:

What petty things in your life are you crazy enough to kill?

Cowtown

In the morning, I will attempt to run my longest race yet…the Cowtown Ultra Marathon. 50 kilometers. How far is that?

50 kilometers = 31.0685596 miles

Yikes. 31. Miles.

According the Cowtown website, there are 18 men in my division. Coming off of my knee injury & a terrible race season, I am just hoping to finish.

I’ll be running with my dad and my good friend Wendy Oglesby. I’ll also have the good old iPhone again, so watch my twitter & facebook for video updates. :)

I’m a Freaking Loser. Or am I?

A few weeks ago I stepped out in faith and shared my goals for 2009 like I do every year. One of the biggest goals I listed that was hard for me to share was “Go on a mission trip out of the country. No idea how this will ever happen financially.”

See, I don’t set goals or share goals unless I am really freaking serious about them. I mean it. At the end of the year, anything on my goals list that I didn’t accomplish makes me feel like a loser.

For example, in 2008 I listed several goals that were BIG, HAIRY, and AUDACIOUS for me. “Ride in the Hotter than Hell 100 bike race.” Man I’m a loser…I didn’t accomplish the most simple goal, “read two books on fatherhood.” Pathetic.

Setting and sharing my crazy goals is a way of making sure I go for it! The public accountability for me is a driving force as I work to acheive these goals.

Back to the mission trip for 2009 goal. Sometimes, I share a goal knowing that the goal can only be accomplised if GOD takes charge.

With this mission trip goal, he did. Within hours of posting my 2009 goal list, someone had e-mailed me and offered to pay in full for me to go out of the country on a mission trip. I can’t share who or where yet…but I can say this:

GOD is INCREDIBLE and He often works through people whom you love deeply.
