Coolest Kindle / iPhone / Interwebs Hack Ever?

I learned something super cool this week:

If you use a Kindle and you read a lot of news, blogs and anything else on the web you NEED to know this.

What if you find something you want to read but you don’t have time to read it right that second? And what if you found it on your iphone or computer, or the internet or twitter or just about anywhere else? And what if it could get sent to your Kindle to be read later?

“You mean it could all go to my Kindle? Or my iPhone Kindle app? That would be AWESOME!”

Go to www.instapaper.com right now and set up a free account.

Its SO easy! Instapaper gives you a Read Later bookmark.

  • When you find something you want to read, but you don’t have time, you just click a “read later” bookmark.
  • Instapaper saves it on their server
  • Later, you can log in to instapaper to read it or even have it all sent to your iPhone or Kindle.
  • Its all synced in the cloud so you always have the ability to read your saved stuff on any device later.
  • If you use iPhone apps like Tweetie 2 or Netnewswire, Instapaper is integrated.

This little tech hack has changed the way I read blogs, news, stories, and etc that I find on the web.

Cadillacs and My Friend Scott

I used to drive a 1964 Cadillac Eldorado that was black with full flames. It was a beast. When I had it, a bunch of kids in my youth group at the time nicknamed me “CadillacZak.” The name has stuck ever since. In honor of my love for classic caddys, I give you a new blog design, complete with a caddy.

Random fact: my son Couper is named after the Coupe DeVille. Hence the odd spelling. We have car names picked out for all future kids too.

Thanks to my buddy Scott Magdalein at Updatable for the help. If you haven’t checked out what Scott does, you need to. Personally, I believe he’s got THE BEST thing going for churches that need to establish a web presence. The prices are right and his work is incredible. He’s also been a part of developing several iPhone apps and best of all leads worship at a local church all while wearing the coolest, metro hats ever. :)

Scott’s team also designed www.namethischurch.com and is currently working on our brand spanking new website and church logo…STELLAR!

iPhone Explosion

A couple of weeks ago I was given a free iPhone 2g (the very first iPhone that came out) and I set it up and gave it to Amber to use. It only had one problem – the battery was dead. It would only last an hour or so.

I found a new battery for $13 on the internet that came with all of the needed tools and a youtube video showing you how to change the battery out on your own.

I completed step one of the process (remove the black plastic plate) and moved on to step two. Step two was something along the lines of “insert a flathead micro screwdriver and wiggle it back and forth. Use force.” So I did it very lightly, thinking that using force was a bad idea.

Within a half of a second, the iPhone literally shot fire out of the sides and began to smoke like crazy. It was burning my hand so I dropped it on the table…then it burned the table. Couper was in the room and started screaming, “OH NO OH NO OH NO…DAAAADAAAAA!!!”

When it finally stopped smoking, I grabbed it and threw it in the sink and ran water on it to cool it off and it started smoking again.

Lesson of the week: Don’t try to change the battery on your iPhone. Oops. Check out the pics and video. The video does NO JUSTICE to what actually happened. I only caught the very end of it on video because I was more worried about not setting our house on fire.
