I Became a Church Planter

interviewwithzakwhite

I was interviewed by one of the best blogs on the internet last week as part of a double feature on church planting. My friend, Terrace Crawford is the mastermind behind the interview and one of my favorite peeps in ministry.

He has an amazing heart and is very well connected in the ministry world. Shoot over to Terrace’s blog and check it out. Be sure to comment and give him some love while you are there!

Books for Sale or for Store?

I packed up most of my office yesterday and it reminded me of how much I hate storing and especially moving books. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to read. But to be realistic, typically after I read a book, I don’t open it again. It…just…sits. Not only do they take up space, they also make you have higher rent or a higher house payment because of the extra square footage needed to store them.23816128_d4acb70b2d

So, I’m thinking about selling ALL of my books that I have read on Amazon and buying a Kindle or at least using the library for a change.

What do you think? Should a pastor keep all of his books? Do people think you have some sort of credibility because there are a bunch of books on a shelf?

Or can a “ditch the clutter” freak like me get rid of all his books and be just fine?

Books take up an awful lot of space, especially for something that you really only use for a few months and then store for years. I haven’t missed owning hard copies of albums on cd, tape, or vinyl. Why would I miss my books?

How can I justify my desire for compact, organized living when we have so many little rectangular objects taking up shelf/closet/floor space in my home?

Share your thoughts.

I wish Amazon had a trade in program of some kind where you could send in all your books and get Kindle copies of them…

I’ll Take Some Stature and Wisdom Please

I read through the first three chapters of Luke the other night and the very last verse of chapter two smacked me in the face.

“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” -Luke 2:52

I hope you have joined our Prayer Team. But regardless of whether you have or not, I’d like to ask you to pray a special prayer for me personally over the next few months. Please pray that this verse would be true in my own life.

I want to grow in wisdom and in stature, in favor with God and with men over the next several months so that this new church we are starting can reach more people in less time and help them become fully devoted followers of Christ.

Schertz Texas Conspiracy

WOW. I learned this about our target area for the new church plant today. INCREDIBLE:

On July 16, 2007 CNNMoney.com rated Schertz: One of the Best Places to Live in the United States. In Texas, Schertz was ranked #1; Nationwide it came in at #40.

Since the late 1990′s, Schertz has witnessed unprecedented growth. In just over five years, from 2000-2005, the city’s population jumped from 18,694 to 26,463. In 2006 alone, the population rose from 26,463 to 34,000. During that same period, the city platted 1,357 new lots and the growth shows no sign of slowdown.

Oh, and more trivial but still cool:

In 1988, the half-brother of Osama bin Laden and then patriarch of the bin Laden family, Salem bin Laden, perished in a crash of a light plane in Schertz, described as a “freak accident” by Schertz officials.

Wondering why they put “freak accident” in quotations. Schertz conspiracy?

Awesome stuff. Pumping me up EVEN MORE.
