It’s CATALYST BABY! We will be there shortly. AND I AM PUMPED.

While we are gone, be sure to follow us right here on the blog, or check out my Twitter Feed. You can also view twitter updates on the sidebar right over there —->

Kids lottery

Check out the pic below. There was a kid in HEB screaming because his mom wouldn’t let him get something out of this machine. I thought to myself that he probably thought it was candy. No big deal.

But then the mom said “sorry baby no lottery tickets today…”

WHAT? Had this mom really let her 4 year old but lotto tickets before? My gosh!

Just another indicator that we have seriously screwed up our finances here in America.

I refuse to be that kind of parent. I want to raise Couper in such a way that he grows up able to handle his own finances and never accumulate ANY debt. No student loans. No car payments. No debt. Period. It IS do-able.

As far as the lotto goes, I am with dave ramsey who says “the lotto is a tax on the poor” and, as I like to add, the stupid.

Catalyst – Patrick Lencioni

Day one of Catalyst, Patrick Lencioni spoke.  It was an incredible speech about job misery.  I have heard Patrick speak a few times and even though he is completely ADD, ADHD, and INSANE, the content is great.  Check this out:

Anonymity - All humans have a need to be known.  If no one knows you you’ll end up in misery.  This means WE MUST BE INTERESTED IN OUR STAFF and OUR TEAMS.  The power of getting to know people is INCREDIBLE.

Irrelevance – People need to know that they are making a difference in other people’s lives.  As a Pastor, I need to constantly remind people that we ARE changing lives.  Not just making videos, filing papers, mailing letters, designing mailers, making phone calls, managing web-sites, etc…RATHER, CHANGING LIVES.

Immeasurement – Everyone needs some form of measurement.  We need to measure what we do that is relevant though.  Everyone needs to be able to say “this is my job, this is what I do, and this is how WELL I do it.”
