Part one in a series of five things that I am learning about leading right now…
Revolution Church is just over four months old and God is loading me up!
I am learning great leaders are teachable.
I love Luke 2:41-52. It an awesome picture of Jesus as a 12 year old boy in the temple with the religious leaders. In the story, Jesus is not trying to impress anyone with how much he knows about God. Instead, he is asking questions.
We don’t know what kind of questions he asked, but no doubt, they were good ones! He opened his heart and mind. And they were amazed by his understanding. Jesus wanted to learn.
I am learning that good leaders know that they don’t know it all. This helps with other things too like delegation and building teams that you can cut loose and let run.
A great leader realizes that they can go further, faster with a teachable spirit. Too often leaders operate as if they don’t need to be led since they are leaders.
Solomon was the wisest man to ever live. Yet, much of his writings have to do with the need to seek wise counsel. Think about it: why would the man who needed wise counsel the least seek it more than anyone?
Simple: the wise man knows his limitations. Only fools believe they have no limitations. Only a naive leader operates under the assumption that he can make the right call every time without any input. Read Proverbs 1:5, 12:15, 15:22, & 19:20.
How about correction? When Jesus’ parents came and got him, he received their correction and obediently went with them. As a result, the Bible says “He grew in stature and wisdom….”
Are you teachable?
What are some things you need to learn and who’s radius are you sitting in?

Franks told us that he flunked out of school at UT in 1967. He then realized that he had two options: either wait to be drafted and go to Vietnam or enlist in the Army. Before he left for boo
