4 Stages of a Vision

I had a short IM Chat session with Casey Graham of The Change Group yesterday. In about 2 minutes he rocked my sad depressed little world…yesterday was one of those crummy days in church planting. They can’t all be peachy.

By the way, if you need someone to focus on your church finances so that you can focus on your church for much less than you’d pay a staff member, check out The Change Group. Tell them Zak sent ya and you’ll get something extra special…maybe.

Thanks Casey, I needed to hear what you said BADLY.

Here is what Casey said related to vision:

Where There is No Laughter, the People Perish.

Laughter. Its important. Especially for me this week. It’s my natural tonic.

Leaders always say “where there is no vision, people perish.” That’s true and I lead by it. But I also throw in my own mantra: “where there is no laughter the people perish.”

In fact, laughter is so important that I passed the torch of “staff clown” to my good buddy Nic Burleson as I left The Connection Church by leaving the torch on his desk. Here is the torch:

the torch

Come to think of it, Nic, you never even mentioned it. You had better be cutting up around that office and be a little immature from time to time to balance things out and lighten the mood. :)

All Leaders Should Run a Marathon

I’m dead serious…

The 16 weeks of intense training and the discipline required are outstanding leadership training.

Running 26.2 miles…

  • is not for the weary
  • is not for those who give up easily
  • will HURT.
  • will draw blood.
  • requires passion, desire, and increased energy.
  • requires prayer. (Ok, so maybe a marathon doesn’t require prayer, but it sure makes it easier. :) )
  • takes patience and a step at a time mentality.
  • takes new habits.
  • takes someone at least a little crazy.
  • means you have to give consistent effort.
  • means you do things that hardly anyone else is willing to do.
  • is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.
  • has a HUGE payoff.
  • is easier when you listen and learn always.

And leadership is just about the same.

I’ll Take Some Stature and Wisdom Please

I read through the first three chapters of Luke the other night and the very last verse of chapter two smacked me in the face.

“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” -Luke 2:52

I hope you have joined our Prayer Team. But regardless of whether you have or not, I’d like to ask you to pray a special prayer for me personally over the next few months. Please pray that this verse would be true in my own life.

I want to grow in wisdom and in stature, in favor with God and with men over the next several months so that this new church we are starting can reach more people in less time and help them become fully devoted followers of Christ.
