Ways to Win my Heart

Yesterday I posted about why I am ok with paying more sometimes.

Today, ways for companies to win my heart:

  • Make it simple. Whatever “it” is, IT must be simple.
  • Give me my own account rep. I know its not “real” but have them take notes on me. Train them to act like they know me.
  • DO NOT try to get me to sign up for your charge card.
  • If I have to return something keep it simple.
  • If you get my order wrong, fix it. Fast.
  • If I am loyal to you, be loyal to me. (great example is Starbucks gold card program)
  • Use technology. When I go to my dentist, I sit down at the computer to fill out paperwork and update info. I love that!
  • Make sure I can try your product before I buy it. Make sure when I have questions that your sales staff can answer me clearly. (the Apple Store does this very well)
  • I want to be able to buy it in person AND online, for the same price.
  • Get your staff to say “my pleasure” or “thank you” often. (Chick-Fil-A does this very well)
  • Smile while you sell. Whistle while you work. Don’t be a jerk.
  • Have a no contract required option that isn’t ridiculously over priced. I’ll pay more to have it my way, but I won’t let you rip me off. And if I can’t have it my way I’ll go somewhere else.

Jacked About…

I’m totally jacked and cannot go to sleep because of two things:

First, our Current Leadership meeting that is in 8 hours.

Second, this Sunday. I am preaching. I haven’t preached in two months. Here is what my buddy Loui Canchola said:

He’s right. Well, you don’t need to watch out. But you need to know this: I am pumped. I literally cannot sleep. I just went downstairs and preached the sermon as practice again.

Connection Church, let me just say this: get your lost friends to church this Sunday. I know its the end of spring break and you are tired, but be there.

You have been praying for the names that you wrote on the God’s Most Wanted list.

Now, you need to invite them. You have all day today. Do whatever it takes.

See you Sunday…

God’s Most Wanted

Two weeks ago, we had people walk up to the front at the end of church and write the names of lost people that they are praying for. We also encouraged them to not just pray, but to do something about their concern for these people and invite them.

Already we have had several powerful stories pouring in to the office.

So more than anything, just a reminder:

Cancer is a horrible thing for someone to experience. Losing a family member is hard. Broken relationships will eat you up inside. There are all kinds of things I could list as “the most horrible things in the world.”

But NOT ONE of those things, as terrible as they are, compare to when someone dies not having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We’re putting the lists up each week in the lobby so we can see the names and add to them until Easter. When the people that you are praying for and inviting come to church, you can take them up to their name and show them how much you wanted them there. We want everyone to celebrate what God is doing to change lives!

Check out the powerful video below from a couple of weeks ago as the lists were written out!

Why I Punish Myself: Life Goals

I told you earlier in the week that I was going to share this week why I would continually “punish myself” as so many of you have called it, by doing things like running 26.2 miles. Here is the why: Most people spend more time planning their summer vacation than they do planning their life out.

In 6th grade, I started writing out the life goals list that you see pictured to the left. Those are literally THE SAME sheets of paper I started on. I’ve always been an extremely driven person. When I set out to accomplish something I’ll do anything and everything in my power to get there.

Over the years I have removed goals from the list because they weren’t important to me anymore. I have added goals that have become important. And, of course, I have scratched goals off as I accomplish them.

I’ve removed some goals from the list simply because I realized my motivation was wrong. If the motivation behind the goal is wrong, then its better to not accomplish it.

Some of my goals are spiritual goals and some are just dumb things I want (or wanted) to do one day. Over the years, I’ve trimmed the list in places where stupidity reigned and added to the list as I’ve grown spiritually.

As I’ve matured in Christ, this list has become more of a “Zak’s God ordained dreams and desires” list. Its cool to look back and watch how my heart has turned from desiring to reach some completely selfish goals to wanting desperately to accomplish goals that can change the lives of others. Its almost like a spiritual journal on a couple of sheets of paper.

So that’s why I “punished myself” this weekend by running 26.2 miles. On Sunday night when I got the old list out it was all worth it. “Run a full marathon with Dad.” CHECK.

I’ve created my own little “ceremony” for scratching these goals off the list. First I pray, thanking God for allowing me to accomplish the goal. Then I pray asking God to help me use what I’ve learned to help others realize their God given potential. After praying, I take a pen out and scratch the goal off of the list…one of the most refreshing feelings on Earth! Last of all I review the list, identify a few next key goals, and pray that God would continue to work in my life and use me in BIG ways.

Maybe one day I’ll share my full list with you. More importantly I hope that by sharing this you will make your own list and think BIG!
