God, make me FEISTY

A while back at the SPUR Leadership conference (put on by the Lake Hills Church team and a man I love, look up to and admire – Mac Richard) I got to hear General Tommy Franks speak. The way he carried himself blew me away.

General FranksFranks told us that he flunked out of school at UT in 1967. He then realized that he had two options: either wait to be drafted and go to Vietnam or enlist in the Army. Before he left for boot camp his father shared something with him; that he needed to be feisty. Then he shared this acronym:

  • F – focus. Focus on what is important and STAY focused.
  • E – energy. Bring every bit of energy that you possibly can to every situation.
  • I – integrity. Your most important possession. Never compromise it.
  • S – solve the problem. Don’t argue or make excuses. Solve the problem and get on with it.
  • T – take the blame. Take it when no one else will. Accept responsibility. Be accountable.
  • Y – Yes, I do windows. Never say, “That’s not my job.” Do whatever the boss asks you to do with enthusiasm.

I was recently reminded of this talk by Mac Richard which made me go and re-read my notes. For some reason, the second time it STUCK.

God, help me to remain feisty.

Sunday Mind Dump

Haven’t said it in a while, but someone asked me this week. What is a mind dump? Well, have you ever felt like your mind is just cluttered? On Sundays, I am usually so pumped up that I can’t sleep unless I process the day’s events. A mind dump is when you grab some paper (or in my case a keyboard) and write everything that you need to do, everything that is bothering you, everything that worries you, anything you regret, wishes, hopes, etc as quickly as possible. This has the effect of clearing out your mental closet.

You should try it sometime…so here it is, the Sunday Mind Dump:

  • Pumped up about our first ever church service next week!
  • We set up stuff and had a “practice run” today. Had a blast! The whole team worked their keesters off.
  • We set up the screen that was given to us by Austin New Church. It is HUGE. I MEAN HUGE. WAAAYYYYY to big for us. But we’ll deal with it. :)
  • Speaking of, if anyone knows how to hang a projector and a screen from a high ceiling securely and has some time to volunteer, holla. I’ll buy you a steak dinner.
  • Amber and the ladies on the launch team set up our kids area “KINGDOM SAFARI” today and it looked ROCKIN!
  • Crazy how stuff is coming together!
  • Me, Seth, and Ben were on the road for 38.5 hours straight this week when we drove to Buford, GA to get our new trailer and some equipment. I don’t want to drive further than the post office for a while. :)
  • Get to hit up the SPUR Leadership conference later this week. Can’t wait.
  • Big week for Revolution Church! Here is what is happening:
    • 20,000 direct mail pieces going out
    • we are serving FREE COTTON CANDY to everyone at Schertz fest on Friday and Saturday. Expecting to give away about 5,000 bags of pure sugar!
    • Having our first Preview Service on Sunday morning
    • having a TAIL GATE PARTY immediately after church on Sunday morning
  • My to do list is RIDICULOUS this week. If anyone wants to volunteer to make some phone calls or do some other simple tasks, please holla! We’ll need all the help we can get this week!
  • Kinda finding out that the only thing more extreme than planting a church is planting a church while training for marathon season! I have a 20 mile run in the morning…gotta get some sleep. NIGHT!

The Lake Hills Sunday Mind Dump

  • Checked out Lake Hills Church this morning. A few things about LHC:
    • Most clutter free church I’ve ever been in. They keep it SIMPLE. I love that.
    • Some of the best church sound I’ve ever heard and best looking video I’ve ever seen. LHC hangs with the big dogs when it comes to media and tech. The lighting rocked too. Simple, elegant, and effective.
    • Mac Richard is a pastor that walks the halls. I watched Mac today. He wasn’t even preaching and he was still out in the halls bright and early with the people. Meeting them, saying hi, shaking hands. Awesome guy.
    • The kids area was very nice, clean, and best of all SECURE. I almost got tazed by a sheriffs deputy for walking down a hall the wrong way. If it keeps Couper safe, I’m all about it.
    • They were advertising their “Rock Camp.” How cool is that? A camp where you learn to be a ROCK STAR. I almost signed up.
    • Amazing parking team. Those guys know their stuff and have it down perfect.
    • A beautiful campus. Its crazy because its in the middle of 1.2 million people yet when you step out of your car, its quiet and peaceful. A great place to connect with God.
  • By the way, I stinking love the LHC website too.
  • Amber and Couper leave town for 3 weeks on Wednesday so I’ll be spending the next two days with them as much as I can. While they’re gone, I’ll pretty much work seven days a week so I’m going to enjoy and chill with them while I can.
  • I expect to fully fall apart by day four. I can’t cook, can’t clean my clothes and can’t iron on a good day. And when Amber is gone I forget to shave and don’t sleep. Therefore, if she is out of town, I’m usually hungry, a little gumpy, and a little smelly. Just a warning. :)
  • I have to find a rent house in the Schertz / Cibolo area this week. Needs to be cheap, around lots of young families, and have had no cats in it. Can anyone help?
  • I also have to move, with Amber gone. I think she already packed all the breakable stuff that I am certain to mess up.
  • I also have to sell our house (sign papers) while she is gone. Please pray for our buyers that everything would go well with financing and that they’d get this incredible home!
  • If you haven’t helped us pick a church name yet, please share your ideas at www.namethischurch.com – It will only take you 48 seconds. I timed it.
  • And finally, if you aren’t on our prayer team, we are still looking for about 90 people who will pray like crazy. I believe that this prayer team is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of this new church. Please join at www.theprayerteam.com
