Winner Winner, CHICKEN DINNER

A little over a month ago I asked you, my readers to help me run my marathon on November 16th. A marathon is 26.2 miles long. Can you imagine running that far with nothing to help you keep your mind off of the pain that you body starts feeling at about mile 20? CRAZY.

That’s why anytime I run a race, a good playlist on the old iPod is essential. This playlist has gone through my own personal extreme testing process as I have run almost daily for the past 16 weeks. It is 4.5 hours long and my race goal is 4 hours.

AND THE WINNER IS…HANG ON ONE SECOND…

You ALL were a big help and I want to give some HONORABLE MENTIONS FIRST:

BEST OVERALL Running Song Award goes to:
JMOB (Future TCC media superstar) for THIS CONTRIBUTION. INCREDIBLE.

Most Well Thought Out Playlist Award Goes to:
Rafael Marquez. That guy had me a little of everything and I am adding ALL of his songs to my running list…except some of those latin tunes that I can’t find…Rafael, can you hook me up?

WORST Suggested Song Award goes to:
NIV for “I kissed a girl” by Katy Perry. UGH.

Ok, now, THE WINNER OF THE GAME: Makenzie Phillips!

I will deliver your iTunes Gift Card this Sunday at church so BE THERE!

Sure, she’s the lead pastor’s daughter but she won fair and square. I let random.org pick the winner.

One last thing. PRAY FOR ME on November 16th! Thanks for all the songs everyone!

The Christmas Album that You NEED to Buy this Year is…

It is rare that I listen to a new cd for the first time and immediately love every single song. But that was the case with Josh Rosenthal’s new album that releases tomorrow called “Narratives: A Christmas Album.” Its even MORE RARE that I actually enjoy every song on a Christmas album.

Narratives: A Christmas Album

From the second I took the plastic off and felt the matte finished cardboard cover until I finished the last song, Josh’s music is as refreshing as it gets. It’s evident he puts his heart and soul into writing his music and we’re treated to a beautifully honest album.

Narratives opens with Josh’s own version of a classic, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” one of my favorite Christmas tunes. Second “This Changes Everything” has the feel of a Christmas classic and is a reminder of what Christmas is really about, the birth of Christ! Definitely my favorite track on the album.

Third is a Steve Weisberg song “Christmas for Cowboys.” Good harmonica on this one. Too bad its about Cowboys. :)

Second to last is another tune by Rosenthal and Wilson titled “Before I Go.” It doesn’t sound like much of a Christmas Song, but if you have been a fan of Rosenthal’s you’ll love it anyway. And last is Lyle Lovett’s “Christmas Morning.” I’ll be popping that one in on Christmas morning as my family celebrates.

The ONLY thing I’m not so sure about with this album is why Josh looks like a 40 year old man in his picture on the back. He’s younger than me and yet that picture makes me want to call him up and ask him how the grandkids are…

Check out Josh on Myspace.

Marathon Music & FREE iTunes MONEY

Alright, let’s play a www.zakwhite.com GAME!

Last year, I ran my first half marathon and you guys helped a ton. This year, I am running a FULL Marathon (26.2 miles) and I need you even more!

I need to fill my iPod with the ABSOLUTE PERFECT, most inspiring, motivating, upbeat music there is to listen to as I run. Here is how this will work:

  • Leave your top ten list of running songs by commenting HERE.
  • I will listen to all of the songs submitted, sort them, test them in my training even…
  • If you submit a list of 10 songs, I will put your name in a drawing for an iTunes gift card.
  • You can submit more than 10 songs. For each additional song you submit, I’ll put your name in the hat again.
  • You MUST give me the name AND artist of each song.
  • The deadline for your top ten list(s) is OCTOBER 26th.

A hint to help you help me: Elton John and Michael Buble are awesome, but I don’t need to listen to them while I am running. I need upbeat stuff. Any kind of music is fine. Ok, so maybe not rap. I just prefer it to be positive, upbeat, motivating.

SO GO AHEAD…help me run my marathon by listing your top running songs NOW and maybe you’ll even win some iTunes dough for your own music collection!
