Sunday Mind Dump

  • Break Out ROCKED today at Revolution!
  • Last night we got a call that our drummer for today had a family emergency. The Connection Church, where I was on staff for almost five years, helped us out and Jason Hooton, one of their drummers came down to ROCK with the Revolution Band. And ROCK he did.
  • I think he liked sitting in front of our huge sub. That thing KICKS. LOVE IT.
  • The Revolution Band has been killing it lately! Incredible! Today, they did a new song from Elevation Church called “We Unite” and “Secrets” by One Republic. Awesome stuff.
  • Had our “REV IT UP” day today where people get to meet our REV Group leaders and sign up for a group. We’ve got about 130 adults signed up for 10 groups. Incredible! Our REV Group pastor, David, is doing a great job! If you missed it, sign up on the website now!
  • I felt like I was in a funk first service preaching…so I stepped outside, prayed, and did some stretches. Sounds goofy, but it always helps me. Then, the 2nd and 3rd service were ON.
  • Todays topic was pornography. Its always hard to gauge exactly what is going on in the house spiritually when you preach on this topic. So many keep it private for so long.
  • Yes, I said that “looking at porn is lazy. Why? Because it doesn’t require you to get out there, grow some cojones and ask a woman out.” Its lazy. It doesn’t require communication. It doesn’t require courting. It doesn’t require effort…Since when was anyone ok with being a lazy punk? Just sayin…
  • To continue with the spirit of Break Out, I’ll be posting tips, helps, etc related to pornography all week here on the old blog…get ready.
  • God is using you Revolution! You ARE the church! Let’s keep Loving God and Loving People because when we do that we see spiritual revolutions happen in one life at a time. And THAT is what its ALL ABOUT.
  • God’s Kingdom is advancing because of your commitment to serve and give.
  • Nothing about Revolution Church is normal. This is a MOVE of GOD.
  • …And best of all…God is just now getting started! Its time to REV IT UP!

Kick It Open

Its a prayer slash saying that has always bugged me…a Christian platitude.

We pray “God, if you could just open up a door for me.”

What we are really saying is “oh God bless my laziness!”

Last time I checked, God requires us to have faith and take action. Look at James 1:6-7 or Hebrews 11:6.

What we ought to pray is “God, just barely crack doors so that I am required to have faith to walk through them.”

Our message on Sunday was all about praying this risky prayer. We called it “Kick it Open” because when God shows us just a sliver of light…a little tiny crack in the door, its our job to kick the door open and jump in with some risky faith.

We need to pray bold prayers! We need to say, “God I believe in You and I am willing to stick my neck out there for You!”

See, the issue is this: do we really believe our God is powerful? If we do then we will pray some BOLD, CRAZY prayers Believing that He can do what He says He will do!

What doors are you kicking open in life?

Saturday Night Shots

  • PUMPED that we are about to celebrate our First Easter as a Church. WOW!
  • PUMPED about our mailer that hit 20,000 homes in our area today. Can’t wait to see what God does!!!
  • PUMPED about several new systems we are putting in place at Revolution this week. Doing the preview services model was awesome before we launched b/c it allowed us to put a lot of this administrative stuff in place. The two compliments we get the most are “the band rocks!” and “Revolution is SO organized!” LOVE IT!
  • PUMPED about our EGG GRAB going on Easter Sunday after each service. Tons of prizes and eggs with candy!
  • NOT SO SURE about only having two services Easter Sunday. We shall see…they’ll be packed!
  • NOT PUMPED about the long long long 3 weeks I have coming up. Jam packed with Easter, Couper’s birthday, moving to new house, traveling, and more. And yet, I am PUMPED about it. :)
  • ABOUT TO CRY LIKE A LITTLE GIRL that Couper is almost 3 years old. Time goes by way too fast and is my second worst enemy.

See ya at Revolution in the morning! 9:30 and 11:00am!

Weird Pastor Practices

A short confession and question. Pastors do some “different” things before they speak on Sundays. Here is what I do:

  • Eat Wheaties Fuel with a Banana
  • Drink tons of water on Sunday morning (usually 6-8 bottles on Sunday morning)
  • Of course, I drink a tall cinnamon dolce latte in a grande cup with extra whip from Starbucks. :)
  • Stretch…just like I would before a marathon. I do four different stretches.
  • Hide somewhere for a few minutes and jump up and down praying and pumping myself up for the sermon each service…kind of like when I played Hockey. We would punch the goalie in the gut repeatedly to get pumped about the game.

So I guess I am asking two things:

1. Other pastors out there, what do you do before preaching?

2. Is there anyone who can punch me in the stomach before sermons? ;)
