Raise the Bar or Let ‘em Crawl…

I just can’t shake the calling from God that my job as a pastor is to raise the bar and challenge people spiritually. I don’t want to be the kind of leader who lets people just barely crawl under a bar that’s already set pretty low.

“But Zak, people will get offended.” Some people are going to be offended no matter what you do. I’m not seeking any approval, other than God’s anyway…

At Revolution Church we are all about raising the bar and making sure that there are steps for everyone to take, no matter where they are spiritually.

When you don’t challenge people only one thing happens: complacency.

I don’t want to pastor a boring, complacent church for a single day. And you may not know it yet, but I don’t think you want to attend one.

8 Things I’m Scared Of

This picture was taken of my son at the hospital when he was born. I would have been scared of that GIANT LAMB TOO! Just for fun…8 things I’m scared to death of:

  • Texas, the greatest state and former nation of all time, somehow getting absorbed into Oklahoma.
  • Couper (my son) wanting to watch Barney. I’ve kept him from it so far.
  • Amber (my wife) making me eat lima beans and peas at every meal. I love all my other veggies but not those two.
  • WalMart becoming the ONLY store in the world. Seriously, I would NEVER be able to go buy anything.
  • All the cows in the world dying off and leaving me with NO RIBEYE STEAK!
  • Waking up to a house full of lizards and frogs. Seriously, I HATE lizards and frogs. I would freak!
  • Starbucks stops offering my drink: a tall cinnamon dolce latte in a grande cup with extra whip. I know, its sissy coffee but MAN ITS GOOD.
  • Oversleeping on Sundays…especially THIS SUNDAY!

Cigarettes and Excellence

I saw this the other day at Wal-Mart. A simple, “smokin’ hot” fix for a broken tail light.

Pretty redneck, but it works I guess. But I don’t want to produce things that just “work.”

It made me think about excellence. I have always defined excellence as “doing the best you can with the resources God has given you.”

Since moving to start Revolution Church, I have changed my understanding a little bit. Now, excellence is “doing the most outstanding and creative job you can with what God has given you.”

Saturday Night Shots

  • PUMPED that I get the honor of preaching at The Connection Church tomorrow. I’m coming home!!!
  • PUMPED about all of the people we are meeting!
  • PUMPED that college and high school football are HERE.
  • PUMPED about our first message at Revolution Church. I’ll have it finished up this week!
  • PUMPED that we are less than a month away from our first preview service
  • SCARED TO DEATH that we are less than a month away from our first preview service.
  • NOT PUMPED about a bunch of administrative type things I have to do in the next week.
  • PUMPED that Amber’s family is with us for a few days. Couper LOVES it!
  • NOT PUMPED about renting this house. Just feels weird since I’ve been a home owner since age 19.
