Race Results and Sunday Mind Dump

My Race results from today:

26.2 miles in 4 hours, 17 minutes, 28 seconds. YEAH BABY!

Out of 34,000 runners I placed 2,574th.

Out of male only runners I placed 1756.

Out of men age 25-29 I placed 181.

I’m happy with my results. My “dream goal” was under 4 hours. My actual goal was 4 hours 20 minutes, so I just made it! You can see my splits by clicking the image.

  • I missed church today…It KILLS me to miss our services!
  • That said, I got a good report from TONS of people about church today including my neighbor, which is an AWESOME thing!
  • I had several people filling in for me today and they did GREAT! Shep, Kamala, Rick, Douglas, and Eric, THANK YOU for rocking the tech ministry today!
  • Thanks to everyone who prayed for me at 10:30 this morning. I was on about mile 21 in my race at that time and it must have worked because I never got tired!!! In fact, my results show that I actually sped up at that time!
  • My legs are a little sore, but not as much as I thought they’d be after running 26.2 miles. I’m sure I’ll be feeling it tomorrow BIG TIME.
  • I ran with my Dad. It was a blast! Then we got separated, my nose bled like crazy, and I swear I saw him go by me. I finished taking care of my nose and then ran fast to catch up to him and it turned out to be someone else with the same shirt and hat. By then I was on mile 22 and feeling great, so I just finished the race strong. I thought Dad would be ahead of me but he wasn’t. Made me feel bad that we didn’t finish together.
  • During the race, I ate TONS of candy, 1 banana, 6 packets of GU, and downed a TON of CYTOMAX.
  • By the way, CYTOMAX is everything that Gatorade wishes it could be…
  • It was so nice to NOT have to watch Texas Tech on TV this weekend. They had an off week. Man, I hope they get the SNOT kicked out of them this weekend!
  • Stick around the blog this week and I’ll explain why I would punish myself by running a 26.2 mile race…

26.2 Miles

This is an educational post…

Tomorrow morning at 7:30am I will run my first full marathon. Today, I had three people give me that “oh you’re running a marathon? I ran one of them 5 mile marathons one time. How far is yours?” junk that I so despise.

Allow me to educate everyone. The name marathon comes from the legend of Pheidippides, a Greek messenger. The legend states that he was sent from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been defeated in the Battle of Marathon. It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping and burst into the assembly, yelling, “We have won!” before collapsing and dying.

Hopefully, I will only collapse, not die…

So, a REAL, BONAFIDE marathon is TECHNICALLY 26.2 miles.

NOT 5 miles.

NOT 3 miles.

NOT 20 miles.

26.2 miles. 26.2 long long miles. Runners say the first half of the marathon isn’t so bad (20 miles) but the last “half” (6.2 miles) is a true test of strength, endurance, mind, soul, and more.

I’ve put in over 250 miles in the last 16 weeks during my training. I’ve run 4-5 days a week for 16 weeks. I’ve changed how I live day to day life. I’ve changed what I eat. I’ve given up lots of sleep, late night movie sessions, my entire wardrobe (my clothes no longer fit) and, according to my wife, my own butt (I lost lots of weight, its flat now) to run this race.

So, if you think about it, pray for me at about 10:30am CST tomorrow morning. That’s when I’ll be on my last 6 miles.

And, if you think I’m crazy, I’ll be posting this week on why I would put myself through something so insane.

Peace!

Winner Winner, CHICKEN DINNER

A little over a month ago I asked you, my readers to help me run my marathon on November 16th. A marathon is 26.2 miles long. Can you imagine running that far with nothing to help you keep your mind off of the pain that you body starts feeling at about mile 20? CRAZY.

That’s why anytime I run a race, a good playlist on the old iPod is essential. This playlist has gone through my own personal extreme testing process as I have run almost daily for the past 16 weeks. It is 4.5 hours long and my race goal is 4 hours.

AND THE WINNER IS…HANG ON ONE SECOND…

You ALL were a big help and I want to give some HONORABLE MENTIONS FIRST:

BEST OVERALL Running Song Award goes to:
JMOB (Future TCC media superstar) for THIS CONTRIBUTION. INCREDIBLE.

Most Well Thought Out Playlist Award Goes to:
Rafael Marquez. That guy had me a little of everything and I am adding ALL of his songs to my running list…except some of those latin tunes that I can’t find…Rafael, can you hook me up?

WORST Suggested Song Award goes to:
NIV for “I kissed a girl” by Katy Perry. UGH.

Ok, now, THE WINNER OF THE GAME: Makenzie Phillips!

I will deliver your iTunes Gift Card this Sunday at church so BE THERE!

Sure, she’s the lead pastor’s daughter but she won fair and square. I let random.org pick the winner.

One last thing. PRAY FOR ME on November 16th! Thanks for all the songs everyone!

Sunday Mind Dump

  • Baptism celebrations ROCKED today!
  • We had a different lead singer for every single song today. I was skeptical but it came off well and sounded great!
  • Want free iTunes money? This is not a joke. Check it out!
  • Planning for Trunk or Treat, our annual Halloween outreach event is in full swing. If you want in on it, hit me up here.
  • Had an awesome date with Amber this week. But seriously men, unless you want to cry in front of your wife like a little girl, don’t take her to see “Nights of Rodante.” I BALLED.
  • Heading out to Catalyst this week. Needless to say, I’ll be posting from the road so check the blog!
  • Also, I’ll be using TWITTER like crazy. Watch my TWITTER FEED here or on the sidebar of the blog.
  • Can’t believe the Angels did not win either of the first two games at home.
  • Did I say that Baptisms were AWESOME?
  • Amber just headed to downtown Austin to hang out with her old co-workers. I don’t do well when she is in downtown Austin alone. I’ll be freaking out til she returns.
  • I ran 18 miles yesterday. My confidence level for the marathon is dropping. :)
  • Maybe its good for me to NOT have confidence for once.
  • The race officials are saying there will be 30,000 people running. THAT. IS. INSANE!
  • I took the Strengthsfinder 2.0 test this week. Incredible stuff. More on that soon.
