Bringing Sexy Back…YUP.

I am excited about our new series that launches on Sunday. Its called BRINGING SEXY BACK.

Sex is everywhere…we see it on billboards, commercials…no matter where you turn you find that “sex sells.”

It’s CRAZY. There have been many times I have had to change the channel during a COMMERCIAL. And don’t even get me going on what our kids are facing today.

We are bombarded with an unhealthy, hollywood sex message constantly from every angle in life.

SO WHY DO SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT THE CHURCH SHOULD BE SILENT ON THIS SUBJECT?

Have you ever read the Bible?

God invented sex! It was His idea. It’s not like God accidentally caught Adam & Eve in the garden having sex and then got mad about it. He designed sex to be enjoyed, inside the marriage relationship, one man and one woman. There is no other way to have sex. That is how God designed it – for marriage.

The church has been silent on this subject for too long. And since the church has been silent, we’ve given away the megaphone that rightly belongs to us. Its time that we preach biblically based sermons on this subject.

We, the church, are literally obligated to teach on the subject of sex. We have to present the whole council of Scripture and not run from certain issues just because they might make us feel uncomfortable. People want to know what the Bible says about sex.

So, join us for Bringing Sexy Back this Sunday at 9:30 or 11:00am!

Sex: Question Two

This week at Revolution, we’ll be talking about the topic of sex. I’ve been asked two specific questions a few times related to this Sunday. Yesterday I tackled question number one. Today, number two…here we go!

2. Is it safe for my 7th grader (or older) to be in the service on Sunday? Since kids ministries on Sundays stop at 6th grade I’m worried about my child being in the service.

I would be worried about my child NOT being in the service. Why?

First, do you let your kid go to school? Because whether they go to a private, christian, public, foreign…WHATEVER school they go to, I guarantee you that they are not getting a healthy or God honoring education on sex from their friends.

Second, at the start of January Symantec published a list of the top 100 kids’ online search words for 2009. The data comes straight from a free search monitoring service called OnlineFamily.Norton.

Be sure to scroll down and read the lists broken down by age. I was SHOCKED that “porn” is the 4th most popular search word for kids under age 7. Yes, you read that right…kids UNDER age 7 are searching for porn.

Norton Safety Minder“ is number 46 on the list. When you search for this you find instructions on how to disable the monitoring service. So keep in mind that this list is only pulled from parents who actually use internet monitoring…it doesn’t even include the kids who have free reign or who have disabled the monitoring service.

If you were too lazy to go click the link look at this excerpt:

SHOCKING SEARCHES FROM THE TOP 100

by boys and girls (ages 18 & under)

#4 – Sex (#4 for boys & #5 for girls)
#5 – Porn (#5 for boys & #24 for girls)
#32 – Boobs (#17 for boys)
#82 – _____ (I won’t type this one on my blog)

So, that said, I guess I’ll refer you back to question one. The most healthy place for your kids to learn about sex is from you and the church!

Sex: Question One

This week at Revolution, we’ll be talking about the topic of sex. I’ve been asked two specific questions a few times related to this Sunday. Today I’ll tackle question one and tomorrow, question two…here we go…

Question 1: Why would a church talk about sex?

Why wouldn’t a church talk about sex? Sex is on everyone’s mind. Its literally everywhere. My blogging friend FlowerDust backs this up. I’ve seen ads on TV where sex is used to sale the most random things! When we have TV ads using sex to sell something like a vacuum cleaner, I’m pretty sure we’ve become a sex-saturated culture.

Traditionally, the church hasn’t had the guts to address this topic. Which scares me because the church knows (or should know) the truth! Confusion and false teaching run rampant in our world when it comes to sex. Why wouldn’t we share the truth in a loving way?

We forget that sex was God’s idea. He created it. He wants us to enjoy it, in the context of a marriage relationship. One husband, one wife…oh, and frequently.

:)

Did you know that there is an entire book of the Bible dedicated to the subject of sex? Its called Song of Solomon. Go read Song of Solomon 7:1-8 and you’ll see what I mean. Little hebrew boys weren’t allowed to read this part of the Bible back in the day because it was so sensuous.

God wants husbands and wives to have a healthy sexual relationship. It’s a point of tension for so many marriages. Come ready this Sunday to learn what God has to say about this topic that affects all of us!

Sunday Mind Dump

  • Awesome day at The Connection Church today!
  • Cole preached on purity. Awesome message!
  • Most memorable quote from Cole: “There is NO SUCH THING AS SAFE SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE. You CANNOT put a condom on your heart.” WOW!
  • Loving the vibe around Church lately. NICE.
  • Maybe the vibe has something to do with Cole making a PB&J sandwich on stage and acting out a pole dance as illustrations? Hmmmm…MY EYES! AHHHH!
  • I have never seen anyone turn so red in my life as I saw Pam (Cole’s wife) do today when he talked about pole dancing. LOL.
  • Had our first BIG HUNT planning meeting today. Can’t believe it is already looming. We have some incredible people that are going to be leading out this year so that Cole and I can focus on something else STINKING COOL that we’ll be doing…more to come on that.
  • Had a virtual “friend” show their really ugly side today. Made my blood pressure go up. I get so frustrated with Christians sometimes.
  • Finished painting and re-installing my fender flares on the jeep. Yeah!
  • Going to the C3 Conference this week. C’MON!
  • Loving my time with God lately. He’s pretty much the man…
  • Killing Cockroaches by Tony Morgan is awesome! Full review coming when I finish it…
  • Gotta hit the sack early. LATERS!
