Today I was speaking with a friend and he complimented TCC on our success. He said that he thought since we were somewhat successful now, more people would start coming.
I said thanks and then got off the phone and almost puked. What a dumb thing to say. It is ridiculous because I don’t feel like God has even really started to do what He wants to do here in Kyle…in other words, what we are seeing now is just the very very very early early early part of what God has planned for TCC.
Its a vision issue…I want people to be attracted to the vision we have…not the success.
The LA Angels are my favorite team. Always have been. Always will be. In 2002 when they won the World Series and experienced great success, Angels fans started popping up everywhere. That’s fine and dandy, but the next season when the Angels didn’t do so hot, those bandwagoners jumped off and disappeared.
We are all about attracting people with the VISION at TCC because when the vision becomes peoples’ passion, they won’t disappear, even during a losing season! In fact, if we experience some tough times, people committed to the vision will play even harder. If vision is front and center instead of success, we’ll never tuck our tails and run.
One of my goals in life is to lead our church in such a way that people will always be attracted to our vision instead of our success. Success sucks. Vision rocks. Success comes and goes. Vision is here to stay. Forever. Period. Especially when that vision comes from God.
